Argh! Having the G1 Service as required and so expensive is a drag!

I mean, come on! At minumum, 400 messages for $25 a month?!, compared to 400 messages for 5 a month or unlimited for 15 on other phones? WHY?! Arrghhh, that is really upsetting.
Anyone else really annoyed with the fact that their bill will be super jacked up by this mandatory fee every month?

I don't mind the $35 for unlimited data and messaging. I'm bothered that the cost of the voice plans haven't dropped much over the last several years.

I've owned a cell line for about 8 years (where I actually pay the bill). Over the last 4-5 years, there really hasn't been any drop in voice prices.

The base price for my MyFaves Family line is $70 (+$20 for my wife...I think). That gets us 700 non-MyFaves, non-N&W minutes. You would think that they could have shaved AT LEAST $20 off my line and halve hers (which does happen on specials occasionally).

I don't really mind the price on voice (I mean, I can afford it), but I would like more minutes or earlier nights included.

That being said, it doesn't bother me enough to consider another carrier (they all suck in some way...TMO has been the best thus, and by, far) or even call TMO CC to haggle a better deal (probably the next time I re-up, though).

Sorry, not upset here. I read and research before I make a major purchase, I find my life has fewer upsetting surprises. None of this was secret, and none of it is unreasonable. They are charging fair prices for what they're offering.

The phone does not work without the data connection, that's why it's mandatory. Maps, contacts, browser won't work without a data plan.

I'm confused, and forgive my ignorance on TM's plans here guys.. but is it 25 bucks for data, and includes 400 texts/m, yet is separate than the normal text plans you'd have to add on top of it to get more/unlimited?

I could see that being the case because not everyone that texts would need a data plan, so obviously there'd be text plans to go on top - yes?

Is the OP saying that for 25/m for data... that should also included the unlimited texts?

I can't recall the details, but Unlimited G1 data + my 600 minute voice plan was $2 more than my old Dash unlimited data plan + my 600 minute voice plan + my old 500 text message add on.

I stayed WAY away from the 400 message plan because it has the word 'email' in the name and there was no way I was gonna get jacked for 'fines' for going over 400 emails.

So in summary, i'm paying something like $2 more than I used to pay, but now I have unlimited text messaging in addition to what I used to have.

Dunno if that helps or not, but that's what I did.

We did not have unlimited family plan texting , im ,picture messaging before and with 4 people but only two on the G1. Tmobile gave us family plan unlimted for like $9.99/month total not per person like we were paying before so we paid only $25.00 data plan not the $35.00. Plus fav 5 for free which really saved us since we were going over like crazy.

If you call tmobile 800 not the local store they tend to offer you stuff you can't get at the store.

did you have like a 19.99 a month voice plan with 100 minutes before this or something? you're not paying 400 messages for 25 dollars.. you're paying 25 for 3G, hotspots, AND 400 messages. I guess if you want to think of it that way you can say you're paying 400 messages for 25 but you get free 3g and free hotspot? lol.. whatever floats your boat man. I guess you've never tried the iphone, blackberry, sidekick, or those 10,000 Windows mobile phone? cuz i can assure you their plan is not $5 a month...

Do you old people remember how much your first cellphone plan was? I do. Mine was around $50 a month just for the opportunity to have the cellphone connected to the towers. Then 35cents per minute to use it. so using 100 minutes would cost an additional 35 dollars. needless to say, my bill was around $100-150 every month. no data, no txt, no n&w, and definitely no fav five. LOL

Is a data plan required?

Point blank, the phone was designed to have a semi-constant data connection. Many apps use data in some form or another.

Will the phone work without data, to a degree, yes, but it will be severely crippled.

When my data connection went out on my phone my contacts disappeared and I couldn't find my location on the map without turning on GPS. With data you can get within a mile of your location, but with no data it doesn't work so well.

You can go get an iphone. AT&T will nail you for about $119 per month for 200 texts and 900 min with data. I came back to Tmobile cause I had 1000 min and 400 texts with unlimited 3g and hotspots for $69 (I had the voice plan already).
