I am NOW available for my upgrade.

Seriously considering the EVO.

But man o man...... I absolutely love my HERO.

Running the Cyanogen 6.1, 729 mhz with the kernal, and it is faster and smoother than ever before.

What to do what to do.......

I have the same quandry. My upgrade came Oct 1. I'm considering the EVO, it's just so BIG! YUK! And the $10/mo extra is just an insult, IMHO. No 4G here or in the forseeable future. I will admit the big screen is nice, but the Hero is the right size for pockets. So far, I am holding tight...hoping for something with just the virtual keyboard but in-between the hero and EVO in size. Sense would be nice...I'm running Fresh 2.3.3 OC'd to 710, so no lag.

I'm eligible today too and have been debating the same thing! The EVO is cool but so big and the extra $10 a month thing. I'd really like to hold out for the Knight/Speedy but don't know if I can wait that long! I'm a phone addict so it's really hard not to go get a phone just because I CAN! lol ;)

Same here, eligible since 10/1. Running CM6 since 8/10 and have had no issues with the rom. OC'ed to 768 with no lag at all. Like the Hero before root, but it's a much faster phone now with CM6 (or any rooted rom for that matter). Enjoying froyo/2.2 also with the CM6. If I wasn't rooted though, likely I would have something new. I'm NOT interested in paying Sprint the $10 premium data fee either:p.

But it's so hard! lol :p
Sprint makes it that way, as it benefits them! What other ~$200 (after incentives) product do you replace every year? Sprint gives you the "upgrade" money to get us to think we NEED a new phone every year. It puts money in their pocket, and out of ours. And they have the GALL to charge us an additional $10/mo for the only phones that are really worth trading the Hero for? Sheesh.

Look, if you still love your Hero, wait.

At least wait and see what comes out of CES. The Knight might be promising if it is sporting a second generation Snapdragon. Personally I'm hoping for the rumors of the 4 carrier, Tegra 2 Moto device to pan out, since everything about the Orion has seemed to go quiet.

I upgraded my Hero to an EVO last month. One of my concerns with the EVO was that it was too big, but in actual use I find that hasn't been a problem at all. It fits fine in my pocket and the bigger screen is nice.

I put the Hero in airplane mode, turned on the WiFi, and use it around the house like an iTouch.

Reading this forum, it seems Sprint is missing out on a couple of thousand $$$ since if it wasn't for a measly $10 rape-me-now fee, most of us would probably get an EVO. So, it's the same for me since the biggest reason I won't upgrade is because there is no way I'm paying more for less since there is no 4G in my area.

Like most posters here, rooting the Hero is keeping it efficient enough (albeit slower than a snapdragon). However, being rooted and running apps like WiFi tether are more than making up the difference when I can use my Hero in conjunction with my iPad! In fact, after I flashed the latest RUU, I didn't bother installing a lot of Android apps that I used to have installed because I can just use the iOS version of them on my iPad with the much larger screen. This keeps my Hero running lean. Right now, I only have 16 apps installed on my Hero, and my primary apps are Tasker, WiFi Tether, and SetCPU. So, unless a non-4G 3.7-4.0 inch display with HTC Sense appears on the Sprint Christmas lineup, I'm sticking with my Rooted, WiFi Tethering Hero.

Hahahaha LMAO! You made my night! It is so true too. I might jump to the EVO if it wasn't for the stupid fee. I'd rather pay $50 more for the phone then $10 a month!

Well said, that is the point exact, why pay if you ain't getting the service, now if some of you would see the difference of the 4G it is really amazing, but does not merit the extra $10 per month, Period

FYI I have not seen the 4G either but my best friend said he went to Atlanta on a trip and said wow, which is something coming from him
;)

The $10 is very bogus. My brother in law's job got phased out so until he moves, he just kind of does nothing. So he decided to call Sprint and complain about it and the guy he talked to tried to convince him that the phone's components were the reason. If that were the case, just jack up the cost of the phone by $120!

I'm not due for an upgrade until 11/21. I might hold out for the Knight which is rumored for January 6. Hopefully it will be the the Droid Incredible with a keyboard and better specs.

Not to make it harder for you but you probably qualified the 1st. My contact is up on the 29th but I was eligible for my upgrade yesterday. ;)

Haha, you're right! I think I'm still going to wait...for now at least. I just spent the last two days putting CM 6.1 on my phone. I'm not so unhappy with my phone that I can justify spending $250 on the Epic or $200 on the Evo plus another $120 on top of that for 4G. Maybe if there's some sale I'll go for it. i.e. $150 off or something.

Thanks for nothing everybody :D

If I do upgrade, my Hero will go to my daughter ( my wife hates touch screen smart phones).

I am currently doing some research and looking over the internet rumors of upcoming phone releases......

But Christmas is right around the corner...

Your welcome! ;)

I'm going to test my will power and wait for the Speedy/Knight. I do really miss the hardware keyboard. If that was out before Xmas it would make me super happy! :D
