Viewsonic 10" Gtab 1GHz Tegra 2 $379 @ Sears.com

Sears is saling the ViewSonic Gtab that has a Tegra2 processor and Android 2.2. It does not have the Android Market. Here's a 15min video of the GTab posted by a Sears employee who has purchased the Gtab. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aL1b109GB2c

You can also go to any Sears store that sales electronics and pick on up. I also just read that this tablet is also on the Kmart website. I don't know if its in the Kmart stores.

Hi,

This tablet is available on Sears.com, Sears stores, and Kmart.com. It is not available at the Kmart stores. The description on the website is incorrect, but the spec is fixed and shows correct information.

It has Android 2.2 OS. It does not have Google market place like any other larger screen tablets, but it has PocketGear, which is an app store for tablets.

It has Tegra II. It is very good tablet compared to any other tablet that is out in the market so far.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this unit.

Thank you,

Ugh, just decided to go ahead and order one of these instead of waiting for the Archos 101. The chipset and RAM sold me on this one... but Sears.com won't allow me to complete an order since it's not in stock. Expected availability is tomorrow, tho.

Three major Sears stores locally. The closest one is out of stock, the other two no one answers in their electronics departments. Gonna try again in a few minutes.

Blah, Sears is we todd did. None of the stores locally have any stock. One said he sold the last one and would get three more on Wednesday. One said they don't stock computers, and another said they wouldn't have any until Wednesday.

The stupid site won't let you preorder. You click the preorder button and it puts the item in your cart, then you go to check out and it says YOU CAN'T ORDER THAT! IT'S NOT IN STOCK!!

FrayAjacent,

I pulled some inventory record of stores in Austin. It looks like Barton Creek has 2, and Sears Grand on i-H 35 had 2 as of this morning.

It seems that all units reserved for presell has been reserved on Sunday. Sears is getting more inventory to its Stores and on Sears.com.

If you like, I may be able to help you reserve one. Please send me a private message.

Thank you,

As indicated on my profile, I currently work for Sears/Kmart Electronics department.

FrayAdjacent,

Since Sears.com now has inventory, it is moving this item from pre-order to available to order status. I believe this is why it has been taken down for the time being - plus, yes, you are right, Sears.com has sold out of its reserved stock for the pre-sell. More inventory will be allocated to Sears.com and it will be available for orders tomorrow. Thank you,

Thank you. Let me know if you have any quesitons.

As Archos has stumbled and not delivered the 101 I've had on pre-order for 6 weeks... and still no commited ship date I guess I'm actually shopping again... seems additional $80 to go from Arm A8 to A9 isn't so bad...

The one question I can't seem to find an answer to is whether the gtab has HDMI out or not... early 'reviews' seem to note that it does, but recent stuff doesn't mention it...

Edit: Don't bother answering... Hopefully I'll find out for myself in the morning as I found one 'In-Stock' at store within 30 min. of me so ordered for pickup in the morning...

...

Hi. I will respond to your question regardless. The unit itself does not have HDMI out. However, the manufacturer may be working on the docking station that incorporates HDMI out. I will follow up and confirm. The docking station is not currently available.

For everything else, it does work fairly nice. It has some pros and cons when compared to iPad, but it certainly is a solid tablet. After reviewing the factory sample:
Pros compared to iPad:
- UI that shows 3 different select applications at the same time on your main screen,
- Provides more flexibility with USB, micro USB and microSD slots
- 16:9 ratio for better video streaming experience
- Deleted original comment regarding Flash. This issue is being resolved)
- Multitask
- Camera-built in. You can video chat on wifi using the camera that is already built in. You can also take picture and video although quality may not meet your standard.
- $100 less than iPad wifi version.
- It is not Apple

Cons compared to iPad:
- When trying to multi-task too much, system may run slow. By allowing the user to multi-task, it increased the flexibility, but it does not 100% guarantee working without any kind of lag - especially when you try to open 5 different apps in 3 seconds.
- Number of apps and popularity. ViewSonic provides its own market place for apps where users can grab additional application. G-tab does not have as many apps as iPad does, but it still has good number of apps. To my understanding, they partnered with PocketGear. Please visit if PocketGear to see if it has the apps that you may need. More accessories for G-tab is coming, but not as many as accessories made for iPad. There are more work places that accommodate iPads compared to any other Android based tablets. Of course, people next to you won't recognize this tablet as of yet, but they may ask "Oh, that's really cool. What is it?"
- It (G-Tab) is not Apple.

Listed above is some of key comparison between the G-Tab and iPad in my opinion. Other hardware spec should be fairly similar against the wifi version of iPad. G-Tab does not have 3G.

Let me know if you have additional information or any kind of feedback.

Thank you,

Please note that I am a current employee of Sears/Kmart Electronics. However, my views do not necessarily represent that of Sears Holdings Corp.

PS - I have learned that there will be software update to provide Flash and market place. It is important for the users to register their device, so that the update can be pushed out.

Anybody knows if this tablet have any kind of office(word, excel)?
I s this tablet have 16gb internal and you can add another 16gb microSD or is just the microSD?

It has 16GB internal memory and also has additional micro SD card slot for expanded memory.

I will confirm tomorrow exactly what you need to do, but Google docs should allow you to perform basic functions of some of office features. I will get back to you with more detail/confirmation tomorrow.

If you need to use word or excel often, I would advise that you consider netbooks or laptops. I exprienced/heard that it is somewhat difficult in typing for a long duration on tablets - Archos, iPad, ViewSoncis, and etc.

Thank you,
