Help backing up phone

how can i back up my phone without rooting it or being connected to the computer. i dont want to root my phone and theres something wrong with the usb port on my computer cause everytime i connect the phone to my computer, it connects then disconnects then connects then disconnects..etc. until i unplug it plug it from the computer.

There's an app called "Backup and restore". You can also backup your contacts independently and use Titanium Backup if you're rooted.

Backup and Restore won't keep your applications settings though.

Of course, which is why you reroot, reinstall TB and restore what you backed up before you flashed. Some on xda have had trouble restoring with the default app after updating to 2.1, so make sure you use another alternative.

so my backup pro doesn't work on atnt phones so what's another that will do it without rooting

The app myLookout allows for backup and restore.
It even backed up my stuff from windows mobile and then transferred it to my x10 via their website (mylookout.com)

Does mylookout save messages? I have a really important message on my phone and would really like to keep it.

Best app to save SMS messages is SMS Backup. Once installed, it downloads all your messages (NOT MMS) to your Gmail account, so you can see them there. I also use "SMS Backup and Restore" (separate app). This backs everything up to your SD card, and can be restored back to the phone. Only issue is if SD card gets corrupted, which is why I use both.

mIQ works for backing up SMS, video, photos, etc (not mail), but they have a limit of 1000 messages. After you hit that limit, it starts deleting older ones. (Pi$$ed me off, so I uninstalled, even though I begged for this app, and was one of the Alpha testers).

Given how simple rooting is why not just do it? I assume you know to install and run apps, so just run X10Root.1.0.8.apk, install, root, install Titanium Backup, back up, update to 2.1, root, install TB, restore, done.

i like doing things the old fashion way lol. oh and is it completly necessary to back up my phone anyways. like with installing 2.1 delete all my info or is it just a precaution

oh and not to mention i cant download that file to my phone cause atnt wont let me and i cant download it to my computer and put it on my phone becuase something is wrong with either the phone or my computer or my cable because it wont stay connected.
