I have been seeing a lot of forums about GPS issues, the phone randomly shutting off, battery being very short, and the phone sometimes being laggy and glitchy. I have not had any of these issues. My phone isn't ever slow or glitchy and I do not use a task killer. My GPS is pinpoint accurate. The battery, wow, it last for at least 2 days with a lot of activity. My phone has never shut off unless I turned it off. I turn my phone off once every day, maybe that is why my Captivate never has these problems, I don't know. My phone has been perfect from day one. I love my phone and it does everything quick and smooth. Tell me about your good experiences with your Captivate.

I love mine. This is my second go around with the Captivate. The first one had a signal issue (would not receive 3g signal and occasionally went to no service - but GPS worked); the second one was fine with the exception of the GPS. I regarded GPS as kind of a big deal and returned the device (awaiting an update release). I just bought it again last week (applied the update) and everything is functioning great. My one issue with the device (GPS) has been remedied.

I would liked to have seen Love + Hate as a choice. There have been times I've loved it (most) and times I've hated it (random shutdowns, e.g.).

I've had mild issues with the GPS (compared to most, my issues aren't bad) but overall the phone is amazing. Since I didn't even realize it had a GPS when I bought it, I've never found the GPS problems to be a deal-breaker for me.

I've had some issues with the GPS, but it works mostly for what I need it for. I also had some wifi-connection issues but installing Froyo completely fixed those. Other then that everything has been pretty good.

On the battery...I let it die out every week and then I recharge the battery to 100%. I restart my phone once a day (turn off and turn back on). I have my phone timed out for 1 minute. My screen goes blank after 10 seconds on call unless face detection is activated. I have been told that when you first receive your phone it is important to let it die then charge it for the first time. I may have just gotten lucky with a good phone battery. I hope my info helps

I use my captivate. I don't love it. It's a phone. I think its a good phone. It does what it is supposed to do. I have to reboot it less than my iphone. I certainly don't hate it. But it's an appliance, nothing more, nothing less.

I can't say I get supreme battery life myself, but hey... I suspect that once I stop using it every five seconds (hard to use it at work, I'm supposed to be working, you know) it might do better. I do get a full day's use out of a charge. I did fully cycle it the first several days, which can only help.

I hate the captivate. My battery lasts about 4 to 5 hours at max, the GPS doesnt work, sometimes the lag is present, the voice clarity is shady, typing is difficult, dialing is difficult with one hand, screen locks easily, unlock slide is a pain, etc, etc.

Since you are asking for GOOD experiences our Captivates. Mine saved my butt today. I got "lost" on my way to an appt. I knew where I was but had no idea how to get to where I needed to be. Fired up Google Navigation and I got to where I needed to be without any issues and was even on time. I already loved my Captivate but love it even more now.

Yeah I love my phone. The battery lasts one to 1.5 work days depending on what I do. The
GPS is 95% great (the occasional hiccup). My phone randomly restarted once for no reason. The browser has force quit about 3 or 4 times total. I had to hard-restore my phone after semi-bricking it when I was trying to set the swipe to unlock screen and my screen timed out locking me out of my phone. I still love it!

We'll see when it comes back from Samsung. I was going to send it in anyway to get fixed or replaced because it kept locking up and becoming unresponsive on me all the time and nearly ruined my vacation this past weekend, but then I also dropped it while drying to reboot it with a battery pop-out. So the screen is being replaced as well...

So, since I'm investing another $70 into it and they're going to flash the rom, I'm hoping it will be a new experience (and a better one at that).

Works fine.

Never shuts down. Battery lasts about 1-1/2 days but I turn everything (wifi, 3g, bluetooth, etc) when at work or over night.

Have nav in my vehicle so I haven't used the phone's GPS for any trips. Though even with only the GPS on (no wifi, 3G or tower assistance) I lock 6 to 8 satellites, stationary or moving. Signal strength could be better I reckon. Tracked very close when I ran My Tracks.

Would love to get rid of that pesky search button.

A little laggy at times. Not often enough for me to frack with rooting and lag fixes.

All in all, satisfied.

I just got my second captivate yesterday. Last one didn't find a network and the back button was pretty much shot. On my new one i do have a little lag when opening up applications. Hopefully 2.2 will fix that!

Froyo apparently does not fix the lag issue according to folks in the Galaxy S forum. The only fix is One Click Lag Fix. I voted I hate my Captivate because of the GPS nightmare and the WiFi DHCP Netmask nightmare. These are two of the most frequently used features of my phone. Having to hold my phone up to the glass in my car or even out of the window to get a GPS fix is silly. Also not being able to connect to just any WiFi network because the Samsung software error they coded in forces my netmask to 255.0.0.0 even when DHCP sends 255.255.255.0 make me want to take a hammer to my phone. Fortunately, most networks use a standard like 192.168.X.X or 10.0.X.X and won't have this problem.

I do have to say though, after rooting my phone and applying the One Click Lag Fix, scoring 2300 in Quadrant without overclocking is great. The phone is absolutely frickin' fast now too. Apps and menus load fast. No more waiting what-so-ever. If you haven't spent the $1.99 in the market on OCLF then GO DO IT! It is worth far more than a couple of bucks.

Love mine...this is my third one. The first one wouldn't hold a signal, second one was great except GPS. Returned it, waited on the update, and just got it again 2 weeks ago. The GPS, which was my only complaint, is now satisfactory

OCLF isn't "the" or even a "fix" for the lag. It's a dirty hack that, while addressing the issue somewhat and entertaining the benchmark whores, comes with serious risks and repercussions introduced. It's not even the best way of addressing the problem out of all the available dirty hack options. It's just the one that people mention all the time because it's the easiest to install. "Easy" doesn't make it "safe" though.

99% of people who use OCLF have no idea of what they're really doing to their phone when they just go and click that button, or how they're setting themselves up for higher risk of disaster later on down the line. They're just all: install this, click this, "ooo faster!".
