$699 For the Galaxy Tab ... No thanks

No clue what T-Mobile was thinking.... That's $100 more than Verizon and Sprint's non contract pricing...

I compared the specs on the Samsung site today. The cdma versions (verizon, Sprint, us;) cellular) have 2G of internal flash plus the 16G external SD. However, the T-Mobile includes 16G of internal flash, the external SD is empty.

Not that I think it's worth the extra $100. The cdma should have the 16G internal as well for the price.

The Tab is $500 for the wifi only version. Catch there is the 16gb iPad is also $500 and already has 16gb of fast flash and a HUGE app eco system.

Though I hate Apple, the Tab is going to get spanked hard by iPad, since the total cost of the Tab for retail consumers will be about $93 higher when adding a 16gb card. Price is based on consumer buying the card at Best Buy or similar place they buy the Tab. It is called an attachment product in retail world.

Tab is doomed unless sold at cheaper price point. I expect a $100 price drop across the board within a few months.

In regards to the built in space on the Tab, the 2gb internal is allocated for app space (1.62gb) and not for media. The Tmo version has same app space and 13gb for media.

This is Amazon's pricing and doesn't necessarily reflect what T-Mobile will charge for the Galaxy Tab off contract. If you compare the unsubsidized price for cellphones on Amazon vs T-mobile, you'll see that Amazon tends to price unsubsidized phones higher than T-mobile. You should also consider sales tax and shipping when comparing the two. Amazon usually doesn't charge sales tax and offers free delivery on many items. T-mobile always charges sales tax.

Samsung is really cruisin' for some serious fail here.
How they can price it more than an ipad (with all its entrenched advantages e.g. more tablet optimised apps, mindshare etc.) is difficult to understand.
At a very basic consumer level its smaller, so why is it more expensive lol, thats what people in the shops will ask, despite whether 7" really is more ideal or not.
Also people now expect and accept the apple tax.

I think anyone who wants a nice android tablet for a decent price, the new archos offerings look like the only option right now. It even has the same A8 proc for half the price.... Too bad theres no 3G option - I don't so mind wifi only but I really want GPS, and that seems to only included in 3G enabled tablets (ipad has same issue).

The super ironic thing is that as android users we have nice free tethering so not having a wifi only variant at launch is astoundingly stupid.

Note: Here in Oz, they are trying to make us pay 1 grand outright. Since our dollar is more or less at parity with US it makes Samsung look even more ******ed

The best current potential option seems to be the G-Tablet from Viewsonic, once the software issues are corrected:

1. 10"
2. 13gb for media
3. 1.69gb for device app storage (Archos only has 220mb)
4. Tegra 2 with newer more efficient GPU and very good DSP for audio
5. Same interface features of the Archos (except perhaps HDMI)
6. Initial reports are the battery life is amazing
7. $380
8. 512mb ram

Had this device shipped with a solid build of 2.2 and clean UI (Flash working too), this product would probably be HUGE for sales. It still could be, if Sears pushed Viewsonic to fix the firmware ASAP. Heck, the firmware has big issues and the device still sold out.

10" with netbook res just stinks. Tired of 600p screens. 768 or more is what I want in a 10". Though I'm hoping LG's 8.9" Optimus Pad will have a better screen. I'm sticking with the Archos 70 for $250 until a higher res 9-10" comes out. Not wasting my money on subpar 10" ones. Couldn't stand it on my netbook, and won't waste more money on it for a tablet.

I didn't know they came with different Internal storage sizes. I was surprised to see mine from VZW had a 16gb external card and then I quickly browsed the storage specs and saw the internal was only 2gb. According to pre-release, they were only coming with 16gb and 32gb internal sizes. It would be cool if the VZW could be software unlocked. I already have a 32gb card in my Droid Incredible so I may switch cards.

If you follow laptop pricing than it's out of whack. Being able to cram all the goodness in a smaller package costs you more money. And these aren't phones, at least in a traditional sense, so there really isn't a precedent to follow their price structure.
Off contract price of $599.00 is the same as most android phones off contract. So for an unsubsidized product ... its priced right on. IMHO ofcourse
