Poll: Does your Droid X get hot just below the battery door or not?

Looking to see how many of you have the same problem i do, when ever i used the phone for internet, twitter etc, my phone gets REALLY warm just below the battery door. and my battery life is not great like others. looking to see whos does, and whos does not..

Mine does when doing certain tasks. I noticed when I disabled setcpu it didnt heat up as much, which is odd since i generally underclock to conserve battery.

It depends on the situation. Sometimes it gets warm while other times it doesn't.

kinda..browsing a lot will make it a bit hot and playing some games will do it

Mine only gets hot when it is processing a LOT of stuff, or I am on a roll in the market downloading stuff....

I do believe this is perfectly normal folk, processors run hot. And the more you make them work, the hotter they get!

I only really noticed that my phone got hot after using the gps. When I first started using my X in my car, I used an old mount that hung on one of the a/c vents. Here in Hawaii we use a/c all the time so that kept my phone cool when using the gps, but now that I'm using the motorola car dock, I do notice it gets hot when using gps. I did notice that my phone got warm when doing heavy internet browsing but I attributed that to holding me phone in my hands, but now I think that was not the case.

this is b/c of the placement of the antennae, if your phone is hot, more than likely you are using alot of data and you are pulling it down while your signal is at 1x...this is the only time i've really notice it get hot. if i'm on wifi or 3g i do not experience this issue. its more than likely related to the length of time it takes to download info over the reduced signal. in other words, this is normal...

yeah my work kills my reception, it KILLS my battery, fast, i leave it plugged into the pc all day for this reason.

anyone know for sure the antenna is there. I think its in the top of the phone, infact I think most of the antennas are at the top of the phone, facing the back, near the camera lense. hence the bump.

Like others have said, my phone gets hot near the speaker port, when under high loads. Games, videos, browser with multiple windows etc.

To my point though, the games I currently play don't download data while running, so its all processor/ram loading.

Now my battery life isn't that bad, and once I quit the load intensive stuff my phone cools down reasonably. Better without the case.

I wont say for sure because I do not know for fact but I am fairley certain that the CPU is in that region which is the cause of the heat. If I am wrong feel free to correct me but based on the temp readings I get via setcpu and I measured the heat coming from the area with an infared thermometer the cpu is there. So yes of course during high use operations It will get warm. Most phones do with high use though and I do not see your phone getting to hot to where its an issue. I have mine cased and it doesnt get any hotter. I wouldnt worry about it. If its irritating get a case (theres an awesome and thin black hard case on ebay for like $5) However even if you undervolt or underclock your cpu runs at full during gaming and web browsing so it will be hotter. If it becomes to hot where its damaging to the phone I am fairley certain just like your PC it will shutdown automatically when it gets to warm.

Therefore mine has actually burned my finger a tad bit once when I was doing 10 different things on it at once.. lol

both the wifi and cdma radios are located near the bottom. so while you are transferring data via browsing to using an app that requires them they will get hot. under heavy use the battery itself will get warm and expand as well. this will push heat through the phone as well. don't worry about it to much.

Mine only does this when I use the phone none stop for a couple hours, but heck that is normal. doesn't your laptop do the same thing? when my mac runs for hours at a time it tends to get hot because it is just sitting in my lap and doesn't get to vent.

anybody know for certain where the antennas are, would be interesting to see. Not just in the light of iphone antennagate. I find it odd that they would put sensitive antennas near the magnetic waves of the largest speaker on the phone or more importantly put them right where your hands will be when you are actually using the phone.

Sounds vaguely familiar. I mean when you landscape, your hand (or part of it) would cover that area, and when you hold to talk your hand would cover that area.

Also antennas that are designed worth a damn don't make that much heat, considering that cell antennas are less than a watt. I mean Weather Radar antennas and the like get hot but they also push KW+ signals. Completely different scale

Again, just the engineer in me going WTF?

i'm pretty sure the X has two antennae, one in the top, and the main antenna in the bottom as shown above...there was a spec sheet i saw about this before apple tried there student of attenuating the signal

Thanks, good to know. I was thinking that they would want to keep it away and up, maybe even put a shield on the back side (to protect the head, like you mentioned).

I haven't played RD in a few weeks, and my phone has not felt as hot as it did back when I played that game a lot. It still gets hot if I play Angry Birds or play on the internet a lot, but nothing like Robo Defense used to. I could fry and egg on the back of my X after 100 levels of that game!

Just an FYI... if anyone plugs their phone into their computer to charge while playing on the phone, I would suggest switching over to an outlet. My phone used to get super hot, and barely charge while plugged into the USB port. But I can plug it into the wall and wireless tether or play games or what not and it stays MUCH cooler and charges quickly and stayes 100% charged after it has charged all the way. While plugged into the USB port on my computer, if I was using it heavily the charge wouldn't keep up with the drain and eventually I would have to leave it alone to charge or it would die on me.

The USB charge is very slow for some reason.
