HTC Adverts - Phone stop ringing ect

How do

seen few adverts recently from HTC and seen a few good features and was wondering if my HTC Desire was able to get them. I saw...

Find phone by ringing it from computer

and 1 for 'built in compass' for phone which my Desire doesn't have but what about the other 2?

Mine has the compass, go to maps and put your phone flat-ish, then spin it around, the little blue arrow spins too.

i believe that the advert is for the Desire HD which has the "new" version of HTC Sense and also the new features you mentioned. maybe they will come to the original Desire but no-one knows for sure.

The advert is for the Desire HD but....

1. Your Desire has the flip over to silence function
2. The "locate by calling from PC" function is part the new the sense features on the Desire HD Rom but there is hope that we may get this patched onto our normal Desires
3. The Desire has a compass. Maybe you just need to download the compass app from Market so that you can use it?

I've mentioned it before but when the Desire was released (not the Z or the HD) the billboard posters all mentioned the likes of integration with Facebook etc. but they also mentioned that the phone would ring more loudly when in a bag or a pocket. Never found this one myself on my Desire. The manual for the Desire clearly states that the ringer will be muted if you flip the phone over so it is face down.

But the phone needs to be face UP and not moving before the flip over to mute works...I imagine the 'handbag mode' works with the light sensor - if it's in the dark it'll ring louder. Always worked for me in the past

The louder ring uses the proximity sensor and/or the light sensor, both of which would cause a response when the phone is in a bag or pocket.

The flip-to-silence feature definately works - as EddyOS said the phone needs to be face up on a surface (like on a table in a meeting) for it to work.

On the odd occasion that I didn't know where my phone was .i just sent it a random link with fox to phone from my laptop.my notification sound is v loud and annoying .so always noticeable above my equally annoying kids lol

I've tried this with my alarm a couple of times now and it doesn't silence on being flipped. Is there a setting I need to activate? I know there's a feature to silence a call alert once the phone is moved, but I can't seem to figure out this alarm thing.

This is a current feature of the Desire and I too can confirm it works, but only if the phone is sitting still on a flat surface, like a table or counter. Part of the feature is that it will also reduce the ringer volume by about 80% when you pick it up to see who's calling. There's a setting to enable/disable it, but by default it's enabled. You may want to check to confirm it's not disabled - press Menu, Settings, Sound, Quiet ring on pickup.

That's a feature of the new SenseUI on the Desire HD and Z models. Hopefully it will come to the Desire as well in an update.

It definitely DOES have an electronic compass, you just need to download an app to use it more thoroughly as HTC didn't include a specific app for it. As mentioned earlier, Maps supports it to some degree, but an update for Maps will add rotating Maps for your direction of travel if the new SenseUI is added to the Desire.

To stop the Desire ringing you just need to pick it up. Look at who's calling then put it down if you don't wanna answer

Because it doesn't work with the alarm. It works with the incoming call RINGER volume. The alarm has to be swiped to dismiss it, or tapped to snooze. I'd hate to bump the phone when it first starts to sound the alarm and silence it...I'd be late getting up.

you can also press the hardware buttons to snooze. dunno if every single button works, but home, menu, back & search sure do. I think the volume ones also work, & I'd be surprised if select doesn't, dunno about power though.

That's good to know. Quite a few times in my sleep addled state i've pressed the wrong part of the touchscreen and turned the alarm off by accident. I'll stick to the hardware for now.
