Upgrade from Desire to Desire HD worth it?

I made the move, and am very happy. I'd recomend it, but its wheather you have the money and can justify it yourself.

The best adcive I'd give is that you cant ask anybody for advice, if YOU want to make the move, YOU go for it, I did.

+1
I have also made the upgrade, and am very happy with the decision.
As said, if YOU want to, although I prefer the larger screen, internal memory (faster than A2SD+), faster processor, HTC Sense improvements, the screen on the Desire has better colour saturation, but the Desire HD screen is by no means bad, its great ;)

I came from a desire,

and in a word: yes.
at first i was skeptical, though that was because of internet setting problems, and other issues that I took care of.
now with the latest software update it's a dream. (I'm even using a 1500mah battery which i've noticed has given me an additional couple hours of run time).
the larger screen and htc sense makes a huge difference for me.

Try it out first before you make a descision

See my conclusion in this review

and to sum up that conclusion:

"Would I recommend it to normal Desire owners?: No. I feel that HTC will update sense for standard Desire owners. Unless you want a larger screen and higher MP camera and that little extra snappier performance, then sure. But each to their own"

I am thinking of making the switch, and am surprised that nobody has mentioned the increase internal memory. The desire is only a couple of hundred meg, whereas the DHD is 1.5 gb I believe? and as a massive app whore, and even with the USB 'tweak' to allow more apps onto SD, I still have low memory issues.

Am I just an extreme app hoarder or something? I probably have about 60-70 apps. None much bigger than about 3 or 4 meg (and after the top 5 or 6 biggest apps, they are all under a meg).

And yes, the bigger screen will surely feel a world different for browsing I would have thought.

To the OP.

If money is not a restriction, do it.

I bought an X10 rather than a Desire purely becuse the Desire was ugly. The Desire HD is not ugly.

Think of it this way, is your car nice, shiny and new when you go out to catch up with your mates, and you know it is fast in the enginebay ?

Is your girlfriend sort of big, you dont take her out a lot unless you have too, but WHAM BAM she goes off with her Chilean Miner trick (down shaft till Xmas).

I dont think I need to say anymore....

Cheers

Last refresh of 'appinstaller' showed 280 apk's on my phone.

I don't even remember dowloading that many and I certainly dont use them all.

Time to get a missus who also cleans Android apps.

It should be 'Drop-Uninstall-delete', maybe it is and I am doing it wrong !

Which battery are you using? Where did you get it and how much?

Hi everyone!

I'm not switching from Desire to DHD. I'm switching from N95 to Desire OR DHD. This is where my dilemma starts.

Should I take Desire or Desire HD?

I've read a lot about DHD's poor battery life, but I believe it's not really much better on the old one. (and I charge my N95 almost every day so I'm used to it, so to say). Another thing, I really like AMOLED on Desire. How much is it really better than S-LCD in terms of image quality? Last big question I have is whether or not will the new HTCSense be delivered to old Desire. Cos I really like the Slate skin, IMO I don't fancy that round-shaped Sense UI, but this new skin is great.

As for the price, DHD is around 35% more expensive than old one (I will get it in contract with my operator). Is it worth it?

well note that the latest desire's are now running on the S-LCD's (due to sammy running out of the AMOLEDs) but on top you get a newer processor, more RAM, more ROM, bigger screen (personal taste to its size) and of course the new HTCSense.com thing...

Im still gonna get the DHD, more likely to get android 3.0 hopefully! lol

One thing to consider though: with current version of FW my wife's Desire feels much more responsive / snappy than my DHD. Which is annoying in a way :p

EDIT: Scratch that! After turning USB Debugging on suddenly it's snappy as hell! Oh yeah, now: if you want a bigger screen, less saturated colours and built-in maps then yes, it's a brilliant handset ;)
