Phandroid ruined it for me ...

So like most of my fellow Droid users, I was pretty stoked to see that 2.0.1 was being pushed out a bit early.

Could I be one of the lucky few to actually receive the update days early?

I visited the forums like a mad-man, drooling over screen-shots of the new unlock screen. I imagined what my life would be like after the camera on my phone was able to take better pictures.

And then a few folks posted instructions on how to update the phone manually.

Reports started to flood in from crazed Droiders who'd faced temptation in the eye ... and caved!

"This is the best thing ever!"

"I can't believe how awesome this update is!"

"I had cancer, but after manually installing the 2.0.1 update, it's gone!"

Could I be patient? Could I wait?

I did. As difficult as it was, I waited it out.

Finally, on Thursday evening, my phone made a simple chime.

Update available!

"Oh the joys that must await me," I shouted!

Then, with my heart trembling and my breath abated, I installed the update.

After a few brief moments (and an expectedly longer-than-usual Red-Eye-Stare) my phone re-started!

There it was! The new unlock screen in all its glory!

Could this be true? Could this actually be happening? YES! IT WAS ALL TRUE!

I swiped my finger across the screen and immediately thought, "Oh, yeah! Way better!"

And then ... that was it.

I jumped on the browser, expecting lightning-fast page renderings and scrolling.

But to be honest, the Droid was blazing fast already. I noticed no difference.

"That's okay," I thought. "The screen transitions have to be faster, right? I mean, that's what everyone on Phandroid is saying!"

So I went to my home screen and swiped!

SWOOSH!

It was fast! But ... just as fast as before. Again, I noticed no difference.

To make this excruciatingly long story short, the only difference I've seen on my phone from 2.0 to 2.0.1 is the lock screen.

But I love it.

What I'm kicking myself for is getting all excited about 2.0.1 after reading about it day after day on Phandroid.

But you know what?

When the next update is announced, and people start getting it before me and start exclaiming how wonderful it is, there I'll be, day-dreaming about how awesome life will be once I get 2.1.

I hate you, Phandroid.

I love you, Phandroid.

really?? That's the only thing I didn't notice. I lied...I didn't notice the broswer being faster. However, I noticed that battery life improved, the swipes were faster and of course the new lock screen.

Yea, the camera speed, the lock screen and the usage bar changing to a darker color are the only things I've noticed so far... the speed and battery both seem to be the same.. I can get it to go into landscape mode with the keyboard shut but I'm not sure if it's from downloading home++ or it just started working.. (I noticed it the day after the download of home++)

If it was a major update they would have called it 2.5 or 3.0. Pretty much common sense.

I hate the new lock screen. But then again, my phone is rooted, so I can change that. I just made the sliders full transparent so I don't have to look at them. Also changed the lock color from green to blue. Much nicer, IMO.

... and I made my signal bars green instead of white. And my warning icon red. And my status bar dark gray and semi transparent. And my menu dark gray and semi transparent. And a lot of other stuff.

The Schneidster, AWESOME POST! I likes your style. ;)

I have noticed several improvements with 2.0.1, but nothing worth shouting from the rooftops over. My camera is taking better pics (I have compared the same objects before/after). There are a few menu items that I haven't heard anyone else mention that I have recently noticed. I have NOT noticed any battery improvement ... though I'm a Task-Killing nazi, so that doesn't surprise me.

All-in-all, keep the "updates" coming, PLEASE. But not unlike The Schneidster, I'm not going to get too too crazy about what to expect from them.

True. I think people hyped this update way too much. It wasn't a big update like 2.1 is going to be. It's a very minor one to keep Droid owners happy. At least we know they're working on the bugs we report and pushing updates fairly fast. I mean, an update ONE MONTH after the phone comes out?? Come on...that's pretty impressive.

Anyway, I knew it wouldn't change my world when I updated the phone. I've come to realize over the years of owning phones that people hype things up too much. I installed the update with no expectations of it improving my phone, just because I wanted to have the latest firmware out, and whatever improvements were made were nice little treats.

I am completely satisfied with the update, it fixed the two or three things that made the DROID less-than-perfect for me...and I'm not positive it was included in the update, or just the act of updating fixed some bad code in another app that I downloaded previously... but ever since I update, everything that I use, has been flawless.
