Hi all.

Any news on the DHD going 3G?

I really want this phone, but if I buy it unlocked on Ebay (the only place I can get it right now) it's about 1000$ - plus it won't work on the 3G network here in Canada.

I plan to use only wifi anyway, I just think that if it will be released here soon with the 3G capability while I'll have a 1000$ phone with no 3G, I'll feel like a damn fool....

you guys probably get this a lot, but....:

any advice?

Sorry, I'm a rookie in this whole area....
By "3G" I meant a phone that will work in the 3G bands here in Canada.

I was told by HTC that the 3G won't work in Canada, hence my predicament.

ahh well not sure what canadian bands are but here might be a good starting point:

Europe:
  • HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
  • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Asia Pacific:
  • HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
  • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

After looking it up, this is what my canadian carrier, Rogers, is offering

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE on the 850 and 1900 MHz bands (Also known as 2G GSM, or 2.5G in the case of EDGE)
  • UMTS/HSPA on the 850 and 1900 MHz bands (Also known as 3G GSM)

so I guess my question is-
do you know of any plans to make the DHD to match this band, or should I buy this phone now which will guaranty I won't be able to use anything but wifi or the very slow edge connection with it?

I'm almost sure that this phone can work in the US/Canada but please, dont quote me on this one, and also cautiousness would suggest that you follow HTC's advice over mine. :)

Anyway, if you are thinking of using only wifi, then why do you even worry about 3G? Wifi allows for better transfer rates, and this phone is equipped with wireless N.

Anyway, rummours suggest that a version of the Desire HD will be soon release in the US. Wouldnt that be a better option for you?

The 3 things that got me excited about the DHD are

-the pre-installed maps (which turns the phone to a navigation system- with no dependency on internet of cell coverage)

-the htcsense.com integration

-the Dolby Mobile and SRS virtual surround sound (which turns the phone to a truly high-end mp3 player).

If the HTC Incredible HD has similar features I'll be very happy !!!
