928Droid Themes for the Droid X

I DeOdexed using the 928DroidBlackGlassX-DroidX-OTA2315-DeOdexEERR-THEME.zip file from 928droid. It works fine, but the theme is a bit dark for my taste. So I tried installing the aforementioned BackToStock DeOdexed file. With that theme, every time I try to launch the Gmail application, it force closes

I tried fixing the permissions with ROM Manager's "fix permissions" utility, but Gmail still force closes using the BackToStock theme.

Does anyone have any ideas why that might be happening?

Try un-installing it and re-downloading it from the market. Might be an old version with their theme???

I downloaded it directly from their site today. I tried it twice, thinking that I might have gotten a corrupted ZIP file the first time.

I'm tempted to tweak the BackToStock ZIP file with the Gmail.apk file from the BlackGlass one to see if that might work. . .

Did you make a nandroid before you downloaded black glass the first time?

I did. Would it be best to restore that backup, and manually DeOdexed before trying other themes?

uninstall gmail app and redownload from the Market. that seems to solve the problem for me when I ran into that issue.

I would, besides...most other themes have the deodexing built in anyway, so you can be odexed going in. You only need to manually deodex if the theme you want requires it.

But before...
Have you uninstalled and redownloaded gmail from the market? I saw your "downloaded directly from their site" comment, but have you tried it the way I and mygam suggested? Uninstall it first, find it in the market, download and let it install...it's been updated in the last week or 2 I believe.

I misunderstood and thought you meant the theme, not gmail

The market isn't giving me the option to uninstall the gmail app, nor to update it. I'll have to look more into that after dinner.

hey. try updating the gmail app first through the market if you can't uninstall. If that doesn't work for you, download titanium backup (since you're rooted and everything ) and uninstall gmail then reinstall by downloading updated version on market.

I was not able to update through the Market, so I ended up doing exactly that -- using Titanium Backup to uninstall it, and then reinstalling out from the Market.

I then loaded the BackToStock theme. The gmail app still force closed. However, at this point the Market showed me an update for gmail. I installed it, and gmail now runs fine.

It looks like the BackToStock theme installed an older gmail (or at least wanted to work with an older one) and I needed to force the Market to reinstall the right version.

Clarification for you on 5 and 6.

make sure you are pressing "Bootstrap Recovery" 1st
wait for the pop up that says "Success!" and press "OK"
now you can press "Reboot Recovery"...it will reboot and you should be into clockwork

Try the transfer via USB sometimes a file can become corrupted through wireless transfer. Some people have been having issues with the 928 zip file itself but after redownloading the file and placing it on the root of the sdcard via usb they seemed to have no issues.

Also, there may have been a step that you missed with respect to your Bootstrap recovery issue . I think mxsjw covered that in the post above. Good luck!

You guys were definitely on to something, but I still can't get it to work.

I finally found my cable and transferred the BlackGlass zip into my SD/ROM/theme directory. I followed the instructions and after the red eye comes up, it got stuck in a boot-loop with the "Droid" text just coming up on the screen over and over again. I took out the battery, then restored to my 10/29 backup.

Next I downloaded the zip file again from 928's website and put it in the SD root directory. After following the instructions again, I got stuck in the same boot-loop. Frustrated, I restored the phone again with the 10/29 backup.

Any thoughts as to what might be going wrong here? Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys new to the board but i've had my DX for a while and i'm just now getting into the whole customizing my phone beyond your basic apps. So I have a new MacBook Pro and I need to figure out how to do all these cool things with this comp haha. So I read earlier that a MAC guide was coming did that ever happen? I also saw another guy found a mac guide but I wouldn't know where to look really. Any help would be great thanks.

this may be a dumb question but her it goes.

i recently rooted my droid x and installed ApeX custom rom which i have to say is BOSS. however my curioisty kills me and i must know what other roms are like.

1. how many times can i switch roms until i should be worried that my phone may flat out die or burst into a smoldering fireball. (if that is even possible)

2. also, if i have ApeX installed, can i just switch to a different rom by using bootstrap and loading the new rom right on, or do i have to restore my phone using the original nandroid images we created when following this guide then load the new rom on.

any suggestions would be much appreacted!!
