Go to the market and download easytether or PDANet. They both have free versions that you can try them out and a paid version that unlocks some features like the ability to go to secure websites (https) Whenever you have to sign in to a forum or something, you have to go through https

I use Easytether Pro because it was cheaper than PDANet pro.

What PDANet offers over Easytether is you can 'wirelessly' connect using a bluetooth (if your computer can accept that) My computer doesn't so this is a moot point. You can also text message from your phone on a popup screen on your computer if someone tm's youwhile surfing the net.

9.99 one time pay for easytether and I cancelled my home internet. I save $60 a month

^ you're going to screw up tethering for everyone when they get rid of unlimited plans b/c of people abusing the tethering...

i tether every now and then(it's native to my phone; nexus) but i certainly wouldn't use it as my home internet b/c it's abusing a system...

And 'people' that abuse systems cite that they are 'paying for it' - which is BS because they are _NOT_ paying for it in the manner that they use it!
They are paying for a certain amount of usage as spelled out in virtually all contracts I see.
To play devil's advocate here.. the carriers are not helping themselves by calling it 'unlimited' when there is a limit.
None of them want to do it because then the other carriers will use it against them.

Infrastructure is expensive, and it's made even more expensive by all these jerks that campaign against a tower, causing massive delays and millions spent on a tower that for all intents is actually less than a million dollars to erect and equip.

Good luck on your tethering endeavors people... but it's not meant for you to all of a sudden use it as your primary means of internet access.
Go get DSL or cable if you need home internet access.

Exactly right.the unlimited meant for unlimited use on their handset, not unlimited tethering. Unless you have sprint and are in (and are using 4g while tethered) a4g zone with a4g phone and subscribe to the tethering plan, in which I highly doubt.

And even unlimited plans didn't mean having a data pipe open 24/7. It meant there were no data caps for heavy users of media content. I have an unlimited plan and a Nexus running FroYo, so I get the tethering and hotspot for no extra charge. Even so, I rarely use even 200MB of data per month and I consider myself a moderate user. Of course I use WiFi whenever available, especially for downloads and media. I just checked my data use for the past week and it's about 40% 3G/60% WiFi.

Most people who use tethering as their primary internet access are also probably justifying downloading pirated content because they *can* do it, regardless of whether it's legal or moral.

Really? Who's the greedy one here? The telco giving us unlimited handset access or the a-holes who are using the access beyond it's intended purpose?

I mean, do you also think it's right for the people who go to buffets and line bags/purses/pockets with food to take home with them as well?

Hi.

I have an HTC Desire HD running 2.3.3, so I have tethering available. If I connect the ‘phone to a public wifi hotspot, then try to connect my Samsung Galaxy Tab to the ‘phone’s built in wifi hotspot, the ‘phone seems to drop the connection to the public hotspot, connect to 3G and share that with the Tab. Can you share a public hotspot connection through the ‘phone to the Tab?

(The Tab can’t connect directly to the public hotspot, as the public hotspot access comes from my ‘phone provider).
