Has your G1 been sending spurious messages?

According to the t-mobile forums a few people have been experiencing a problem with their G1's sending out text messages to random people they do not know. This isn't a one off case, according to T-Mobile it is a known issue, and is limited to the G1 handset.

Has anyone here received strange text messages, or been accused of sending text messages to someone they do not know?

Something to be aware of guys, this does not sound good.

This happened to me last week. A total stranger in another state wanted to know why I texted them and sent my photo. I was confused, so I asked them more about it and they forwarded the photo and messages to me. The photo was not of me or anyone I have ever even seen before. The photo and messages were from some random person of the opposite sex and they were sent on a date and time when I was in complete possesion of my phone. It was very strange because this all happened out of nowhere for both of us and we were both so confused.

I don't want to blame it on ChompSMS without solid proof, but I've had this phone for months without any such issues, yet this suddenly occured hours after installing ChompSMS (v1.6) from the market. I ended up uninstalling it from my G1 and haven't had any thing similar happen since.

I am curious to know if the other people who experienced this also had ChompSMS installed at that time. I am also wondering if SMS spoofing or crosstalk is actually possible.

Edit: Also wanted to mention that I used ChompSMS to send through the carrier (T-Mobile US), not through ChompSMS's own provider

This is happening to me too, and I'm not using ChompSMS . When I sent a picture to my friend, he asked if I sent it from another phone. I said no, and asked him why, and it told me it was from a different number. I thought he was maybe confusing the jpg file name with an actual telephone number, but then he showed me later on that day it was in fact from a different number.

I'm also getting random SMS messages from people...makes me kind of worried someone's getting my private texts. D=

This happened to me over the weekend.

I sent my wife a small pic and she received it but not from me.
I sent a message to that # from her phone and it was a functional #. The person on the other end was a tad confused as was I.

I'm going to call t Mo and ask WTH? I doubt I will find anything out but I may feel better afterwords.
