The Tea Party should be up in arms literally over the Supreme Court ruling passing the Citizens United Ruling.

It pretty much ruled that a corporation has the same rights as a living person. How the F is that possible? It allows UNLIMITED amount of money to be donated towards Politicians and they do NOT have to disclose where it came from.

How is this a GOOD thing?

This is how I see it as a serious if not fatal problem.

Let's say I am China. I have LOTS of money. I want to control your country by preventing you from passing laws that will block anything I do on this planet. How do I do that? Easy, I pour LOTS of cash into fake campaign issues to get people I can manipulate or people that will do my bidding i.e. the Tea Party crackpots. The Politician gets their taste of "power" but really they do my bidding.

Can you see how you just lost control of your country.
Give it 10-15 years because they know the greed that is within and have seen how your previous Politicians get the people to vote against their personal and national interests. Ask yourself this, if that ruling was in place in 2006 might John McCain and Sarah Paling be running the US right now. China could easily dump $500 billion into their campaign and get them elected. They could make sings for every lawn, pay for 24 x 7 x 365 days of radio and tv advertising. Hell they could even do a Trojan move by getting John McCain to say he brokered a deal with the Chinese, so if he gets elected he has jobs ready to go and people would of course vote for him.

America is the monkey that dances for the organ grinder or in other words you live under the illusion of freedom and power.

I would have thought the Tea Party Republicans would have that as their #1 goal to repeal but I guess Gays in the Military are the bigger threat to you having a job or control of your country:rolleyes:

and yet another America bashing thread void of facts.....

the Citizens United ruling didnt deal with transparency or unlimited amounts of disclosed donations...... this falls under other lobbying and NotForProfit laws which have been in place for years....and in fact there are still laws in place that state corporations cannot directly donate to candidates above the individual donation limits..... the Citizens United ruling dealt with campaign advertising...... it simply means corporations or an entity can buy media space without limits.......... so it means an entity could buy tv commercials supporting one candidate over another.... so as long as your group is registered as a certain type of NFP organization you arent required to disclose your donors......

of course as long as the individual donation amounts are below the legal amounts for individuals you havent had to disclose your donor list under law for many years......... this is how a certain candidate in 2008 (I wont mention names but we know who got elected) was able to receive millions in donations via credit card over the internet without disclosing the donors...... which was claimed even the campaign didnt know who the donors were so they couldnt possibly disclose them

now back to the America bashing....... admittedly I dont pay much attention to Canada..... but I did do a couple of quick Google searches...... and amazingly there are all kinds of articles about political corruption in Canada...... and campaign financing scandals....... sort of reminded me of that whole glass house and stones thing

Your mistake is in assuming the tea party types are deep thinkers.

No, that is EXACTLY what I mean. They will fund the stupid.
But it matters not, the fact that you have now created a system that allows ANYONE from ANY COUNTRY to contribute to your Political system is not going to work out for the best interest of the Nation.

Don't harp on the Tea Party, as they are just an example.
Based on what I have seen with Sarah Palin she would gladly take $500 million to help her get to be President WITHOUT asking where the money came from.

I think we need a flat system. You get X amount of money to spend and that's it. Also limit the term for ALL Politicians.
You limit the President to 8 years but Senators can be there for 50+ years. Limit all level of Government Politicians to 8-10 years.

I don't know how you will do this given the vitriol state of the nation. I think America has gotten itself into such a deep hole that your leaders or so called leaders have you divided and arguing stupid pointless shit compared to the larger issues within and those around the globe as they would impact you.

Greed has planted it's seed deep within.
There is no longer a Moderate point of view. Moderates will get called Pinko Commies...oh wait that was the 50's oops I mean 2010 or they will get labeled as Socialists even the name callers do not understand the terms. Call them a name, slap a bumper sticker slogan and You Betcha' watch the other side vote against their own interest based on feelings.

Lee Atwater said wrestling is his favorite thing even better than Politics because while it looks real we all know it's for show and it's not real. That is a F'd up thing to say because what you are doing is sending people to die in wars and what you do effects the growth and success of your nation for your future and your children. So to them, it's a game and you are their pawns.

There aren't all that many nations that aren't tightly controlled by their political leaders or monarchs. Politics is almost always predisposed to corruption. Do you think the people of China can say or do what they want when they want without consequence? How about the residents of North Korea? Libya? Pakistan? Venezuela? Zimbabwe?

I'm sorry but true Freedom is an illusion across much of the globe!

Agree

_______

Depending on China's growth rate its only a matter of time before most government debt is basically in some way financed by them so it seems.
I wouldnt worry about them turning the US communist though, even they have ditched that ;)

Please post your links to Canadian issues. Sure like everywhere else we had Political Scandals but not on the scale and consistency that the US has. Post some links and I don't mean from 1970 either. People are Greedy.

You exemplify part of the problem. You see it as bashing instead of trying to analyze the message, quick label me a Commie or Socialist.

You are on a boat headed over Niagara Falls. I am standing on top of the hill trying to tell you that you are headed for Falls. You can tell me to F' off because I am ruining your boating trip but in the end guess where you end up.

We can change our Government overnight it's called the Parliamentary system and the people that F up stay out of power for years if not decades. So you see it's sort of a built in safety switch. If one person tries to F us then they are gone and they can bring down their ENTIRE party. See how that works. You will keep your party in check or the people will check you out and maybe check your ass into jail.

Why Canada is the best banking system in the world?
After the huge mortgage crisis in the United States and resulting recession it's more apparent than ever that Canada has the best banking system in the world. Not only was Canada out of the recession than almost any other country in the world, but Canadians didn't show much stress about the safety of their money.

So, why is the Canadian banking system the best in the world? Well, there are many reasons, for starters when comparing it to the banking system of the United States there are far less banks, Canada has 6 major banks (25 in total), and the US has close to 8500. Europe and Asia also have huge banks, and massive banking systems, and even they don't come close to the stability and safety of Canadian banks.

You've probably heard of the US bailing out many of it's banks because it saw them as too important and big to fail. Well, Canada has never had to bail out any of it's banks in modern times, not a single one. But the US wasn't alone, Britain had to bail out the Bank of Scotland, and nationalized the banks Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley in 2008. Iceland's banks have gone completely bankrupt, with the country being unable to even help them out.

Even Asia can't compare to banking in Canada, back in 2009 China, Japan and South Korea, three of the biggest economies in the world let alone Asia, started to buy up all of the toxic assets held by Asian financial institutions. This was to prevent any possible collapse of their banks and economies, and to stabilize their banking systems.
Some quick facts about Canadian banking:

  • only 6 major banks / US has close to 8500 banks
  • better rules in place / better laws than most other countries have
  • rules and regulations protect the clients first, not the banks first
  • the major banks avoided investing in sub-prime mortgages
  • things like RRSPs and TFSAs
  • Canadian dollar is very highly rated
  • well managed banks
  • Canadian laws and regulations help to stop clients from making big mistakes when investing and borrowing
  • Canadian banks aren't allowed to accept deposits subsidiaries of foreign banks
  • Canadians use "common sense" when it comes to banking
  • The Canadian government has tightened banking regulations over the years, whereas the US banks have loosened theirs

I hear you and do agree with your thought that Freedom is an illusion but I respectfully disagree with you. Democratic countries such as the US and Canada et all offer you more freedoms. You can burn the flag or say the President is a Socialist but you don't get shot or jailed.

It is the ideals of what countries as these represent and as such need to be protected and further enhance. The problem that I see is America is being sold out form within. The greed is staggering. People enjoy those freedoms and Companies do too but when it's time to give back to the Nation that provided the stability for them to be rich they cry foul and don't want to give back. We pay to live in this type of society. It's funny how we say it is your duty as a human to pickup a weapon and defend your country from invaders but clap for those that plunder and pillage from within.

Look at the bullshit that Politicians and the media spread. The President is spending $200 million a DAY for his trip to Asia. Oh and is taking 10% of the Navy ships (20 ships to guard him). His trip is 8 days. He is there with AMERICAN CEO's to DRUM UP new business FOR AMERICA yet these idiots make it like he is sight seeing. Do you not see how the world LAUGHS AT YOU wit this rampant STUPIDITY. I guess FACTS and REALITY are a thing of the past.

The OBVIOUS HATRED for the HALF WHITE PRESIDENT is RANK but hey let's call him a Kenyan Socialist Muslim Terrorist. That really makes the Nation look awesome.

uhm Churchill was a SOCIALIST...hellooo FREE HEALTH CARE in England.

Democracy is good it's GREEDY people that F it up.
As in Nature, humans F it up too but try to tell them to slow down and do things better they tell you there is no problem.

Did you know man created Styrofoam, yes? Did you also know that crap is the only thing that does not decay, burn it, it just changes form but still pollutes and exists.

Why is it that we allow a system to experiment on us first (remember DDT and thalidomide was safe, led paint too) then go back and we have to FIGHT to prove they are unsafe and should be banned? Should it not be the other way around, PROVE that something is safe then we allow it on the market?

Ummm... wow. I really don't know where to begin.

Did you just make a mural of political talking points, shoot it with buckshot, and blather on about whichever ones were hit?

You go ape about the "Racist Tea Party". Now, granted, there probably ARE some racists within the TEA Party movement (you DID know it's not an actual political party, right?). But racial issues has never actually been one of the things they get riled about ("TEA=Taxed Enough Already". Nothing about race in there)...

What IS your hang-up about the US? Why the constant stream of threads lambasting us? Did some US sailor steal your sweetheart, or something?

My point simply is that Democracy isn't a perfect form of government. No such beast exists! Every political system has it's shortcomings... even Canada.

As much as I hate using Wikipedia as a source here's a list of political scandals in Canada over the years:

List of Canadian political scandals - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Does this make Canada a bad form of government? Absolutely not... Canada is an awesome example of good government. it simply shows that even Canada's interpretation of government is imperfect.

Government is only as good as the people in it. My solution... lets move all of the attorneys of the world to Antarctica and let normal people participate in government. President Abraham Lincoln said it best in his Gettysberg address "and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth".

With respect to President Obama, aside from his penchant for playing Chicago politics, he's not a bad person. He's simply the wrong person in that office at the wrong time. That said... this and probably the next four years would not be a positive experience for this or any President... On a more personal note, however, I'm grateful that Senator McCain didn't win... for a multitude of reasons.

See you sound like a reasonable person that can step outside the box. Yes, Canada has issues but as I said many times, not on the level of the US and the Politicians here due to the Parliamentary style of Government can easily cause their party to be out of power for a decade to me marked by shame and blame for a long time.

Look at the banking thread that I provided. We act with Citizen first.

I disagree, Obama is the right guy when you account for the global politics and issues. You just said McCain (and look at how Palin turned out were) not a good choice therefore you got a leader that is better than McCain. Hell McCain stated the Economy was fine, 2 days before all hell broke lose (no lol there). Carly Fiorina was his Economic adviser... The blind leading the blind.

There is a new problem with Terrorists (don't get hung up on color or religion, a terrorist is a terrorist and their bullets or bombs will kill you just the same), you have a President that the rest of the globe is accepting of. If he is in talks with some of these other nations it means that NOBODY IS likely to attack you. USE that global fondness to your advantage BUT instead almost half the US is showing the world just how ignorant you are.

As for anyone that thinks my posts are intended as bashing, clearly you have a comprehension problem and the lack of ability towards critical thinking.

Have you noticed that NOBODY is willing to answer my basic question. What is America's next big thing to create jobs and corner the market with? What do you have that the world wants/needs?

* Please discern that some of my words are not "aimed" at you.

See, I think people need to be more like you and stand back and look at things from a birds eye view instead of bumper sticker replies or oh look someone is bashing us replies. Those types of replies strikes me as people that are ignorant or in denial.

By taking on healthcare the President is putting MONEY back into your pockets and is actually helping small business get a well needed hand up. I guess people think the company they work for MAGICALLY pays the HMO's for your benefits and do not realize in order to keep paying the ever raising cost to the HMO's that they take money from your would be raises.

The traitors to the US are the CEO's and companies that took made in America technology overseas along with the jobs.
They instantly gave your competitors a boost.
In 10 years China managed to make the worlds fastest computer.
They can now compete with you because some dummy CEO wanted a bigger paycheck versus protecting the Nations interest.

We are now living in 2010 other nations have the same technology and access to resources as the US. What is the future of the US?

btw- You might get a chuckle out of this.
England's new PM Cameron said in his inaugural speech that England's best days are ahead.
WTF!!!! They ruled 2/3rd's of the planet but are now relegated back to your cold damp island. I wish someone had the balls to ask please define what the best days are ahead. Yes, I know it was a political speech but damn, what a pile of crap.

NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR THE TRUTH.
TIGHTEN our belts, things will be rough but we HAVE to do things in order to try and make things better.

Jimmy Carter told the nation to turn down the heat a bit and wear an extra sweater. He installed solar panels on the Whitehouse.
He said this to the Nation due to the Oil crisis of the 70's but then came Reagan that removed the solar panels. Thirty years later solar panels are going back up. Do you see the stupidity there?

During the oil crisis of the 70's, Brazil weened itself from oil and invested heavily within hence ethanol fuel made from sugarcane.
A few Scandavian countries also turned to geothermal and wind to reduce their reliance on foreign oil IN THE BETTER INTEREST OF THEIR COUNTRIES SUCCESS in the FUTURE. The future being today yet America still consumes the majority of foreign oil.

The #1 user of oil in the US is... the US Military and the #1 supplier to them are...BP. You would think that the US Military would ween itself off the foreign oil but no...hmmm.

The US Military Enginerds could have developed some kick ass Green Power technology and spin it off to the private sector similar to he Aerospace industry...You would be the global leaders and suppliers of that technology today.

Global terrorism is one reason he's absolutely the wrong person. You don't deal with terrorists by attempting to appease them: that, in their eyes, shows weakness... which they will attack without mercy.

Not sure what the final solution there will be. Not even sure there IS a satisfactory "final solution": a large part of what we call "global terrorism" is rising out of the Middle East. A region that has never know peace in recorded history. Something tells me that saucepan will continue to simmer no matter what we do. But I'd like to think there are steps we can take to keep it from boiling over to the rest of the world...

Hey take that back, that was an insult to chimps.
Natures creatures know that if they work together they will survive...man is still evolving try to catch up to the creatures.

side note- I saw a documentary on Orcas (IPredator) and holy shit are they smart. They are the smartest animals on earth. They have the ability to realize cause and effect and to learn from trial and error. Some truly mind boggling feats they pulled off that even the Scientist said humans have a hard time working together in groups of 6 or 10...lol

A snippet- a seal made it to a large ice sheet. They can't break the ice. So they retreat and hide, seal thinks its safe to come out...they attack but it makes it on to another larger ice sheet. The damn Orcas know they can't break it or tip it over (6 Orca's) so 2 of them made a run by creating a wave to crush tip the ice and break it apart. They even tilt a few degrees so their dorsal fin stays just under the water's surface in order to generate a strong wave.
Holy shit, it worked. Then the seal made it to another ice sheet but it was surrounded by too much smaller floating pieces of ice to make another wave. So what do they do, push the ice sheet the seal is on into clearer water and make another wave. These damn things learn, adapt, trial and error, and do not give up. I was impressed with the things these "fish" can do. They hunt in packs and SHARE their food to ensure their SPECIES survive. Nerd rant off:D

Like i said: "a region that hasn't known peace in recorded history"...

But unlike the old days "biblical days" we now have nuclear weapons and biological weapons...so the word peace might be like that movie the "Peace Maker". Once both sides realize that the sticks and stones are no longer the weapons I think you might see some changes.

Religion is the greater evil to the non religious but then the Church tells you money is the root of all evil meaning those non religious (Capital/educated types) are evil people.

Religion is a creation of man to control man. As Nature demonstrates that nothing so far that is man made stands the passages of time...well maybe Styrofoam.:D

It will just take 1 person with nothing to live for to change those lands.

Ever notice that when old people are about to die they have an epiphany and all of a sudden realize all the wrongs they did and wish they had time to correct the past. They even change their thinking and belief system. In the end they realize they will be dead and gone so who the F cares but what our children remember is did we leave them a better world than what we got.
