My Precious Evo is SHATTERED!

So I was playing around with my Evo in the car while my husband was shopping. I told him once he was in the car to drop me off at Old Navy. I ran in and when coming out decided to call my husband to tell him I was going into the store next door but I didn't have my phone. "Odd," I thought, "must have left it in the car." After coming out of the 2nd store and getting in the car, I told my hubby to dial my phone as I must have lost it in the car. Ring. Ring. Ring. Voicemail. Uh-oh. Tried again...nothing. Decided to go back to Old Navy to see if I put it down somewhere but I knew I hadn't since I was literally in there for less than a minute. My heart began to sink..."Did I drop it?" Upon walking into Old Navy I asked the 2 sales associates behind the counter if anyone turned in a phone. They glanced at each other. UH OH! The 3rd one chimes in, "Was it a droid?"
Yes, why? Did someone just take it? Did someone turn it in but you let them take it? Where is it????? They all looked at each other before saying, "It's bad. Real bad. I think it got ran over." In horror I watched them hand over my Precious Evo....shattered! It must have fallen out of my lap and my hubby ran over it while pulling away!
Now what? Do I got to the local service center and they'll hand over a replacement? Do I contact them online and file a claim? I pay the $7 a month for whatever that covers. Will I get a stupid refurb? I want a new one!!!! Are the screens that delicate? Should I purchase a screen protector for the next one??? Someone please console me. My husband doesn't understand my heartbreak and ensuing grief!!!!:(

Sorry to hear about your phone; that would ruin my day!

You might want to try a repair center, but if its been run over by a car it may be beyond repair. And even if they can fix it, how long will it last.. there could be more than meets the eye if it was run over.

In regards to Sprints insurance, If you contact Sprint they will send you to an on line form to fill out. You fill it out and pay the 100 bucks on line and you will have a phone the next business day. Its Fast and Easy! :) I wouldn't worry about getting a referb at all.. in my case with my old Palm Pre, there was no difference at all. Its really nothing to be concerned about.

Good luck... if your experience is even half as good as mine, Sprint will take care of you in no time!

Ok, so this sounds stupid but now I am wondering if it was ran over! I didn't have a hard case on it but a silicone one. The only damage is the screen. The back is fine and there are no cracks, scrapes, etc. anywhere else. I can still click on some of the screen and it responds.
Also, I just read a whole thread on how Sprint's TEP has changed and now they don't require the $100. It also said I might be able to just take it to the store. did I read it wrong? Here's the link http://androidforums.com/sprint/206868-new-tep-policy.html

FYI. there was a guy on this forum a few months back that ran his EVO over with his Ford F-250 truck.... the screen shattered but the phone was still (somewhat) functional. so, just because it still works does not mean it wasnt run over.

melynbeth,

That would concur with what I saw in the store. Mine was rebooting and was replaced free. While waiting for them to activate my replacement Evo a guy walked in with a broken blackberry (broken camera). They offered a replacement phone for $35 and replaced it on the spot.

I agree with this also, at least its my "understanding." Although I havent used the new TEP yet. But, the 100 dollar deductable is still there, but in most cases you would only have to use that part of the program if your phone was lost or stolen. If your phone is fixable, you may be able to get by at a repair center paying only 35$ to repair the screen.
I think the new plan is better!!

(clear as mud?)

Thanks for all of the support....it's much appreciated!
I also wish it had a lanyard loop. I've done research prior to yesterday to find a case where you could add one but never found anything.
I'm going today to see what they say. You know I'll be back to let you know and I'll post the pic of my precious! LOL!

There is a clear battery cover that you could buy, and drill a couple of holes to install a lanyard loop. Very ghetto if you ask me.

It irrates me to no end that this simple little feature is left out of these newer phones. The iPhone started with no lanyard loops.

Now countless phones destroyed and damaged later, the trend continues with no lanyard loops.

STUPID if you ask me. I dropped my Evo in the car the other day... only if it had the lanyard loop!!!

Well if you consider them to be delicate because it shattered after being ran over by a car...then sure, go ahead and put a screen protector on it. That's thin piece of plastic will surely support the weight of a car and stop any possible damage!

In my defense, I was asking if they are delicate in nature as I have read numerous posts pertaining to the screen shattering due to dropping it. I realize nothing would have saved my Evo from the wrath of a car BUT I am beginning to wonder if I just dropped it and it wasn't ran over as there was not other damage.

I actually just got back from the Sprint Service Center and let me tell you....I LOVE SPRINT!!!! The rep said there was no way to tell if it was ran over. 30 minutes later I had a brand new screen AND DID NOT HAVE TO PAY A THING!!!! How awesome is that?!?!?!?! I can't say enough about their customer service. Never had a problem with them...THANK GOD!
