Friend wants HTC surround

I was listening to windows weekly on the twit.tv network, and one of the guys who has helped a lot on the win phone 7 development team said the HTC surround was a total gimmick. So far from what I've heard the prime choice win7 phone is going to be the focus. If you can't convince them to get an android phone then at least tell them to pick a better win7 phone.

I have a friend that wants a HTC surround with windows mobile 7 on it. He was about to buy a captivate. How can I keep him from going to the darkside?

I wouldn't call Windows the darkside :)
But he should at least get the Focus, if he's going to get WM...
Show him all the customization options in android (widgets, launchers, homescreens, etc.)

ive seen videos of windows phone 7 and i dont like it. the only reason i would ever get one would be for the windows integration cause everything i own is microsoft but i really dont like the "tiles" thing they have

ME EITHER....I was really looking forward to the Windows release, until I saw that....it pretty much singlehandedly ruined it for me. I hope there's an option to disable it, or use something else.

The focus really is a gimmick to be honest...
the slide out speakers are cute but that is about it...

tell your friend to get the focus

The camera and call quality on the surround is decent
but pretty much everyone says the focus is the flagship
WP7

Honestly, the Evo reminds me of An Hd 2 with a slightly better
camera and webcam and android

And the Focus is pretty much a Captivate/galaxy s...with windows phone 7 and a more
refined look without having to rely on Samsung throwing touchwiz on it which delays updates...

And honestly, the tiles look basic initially
but once the tiles interact "live"
such as the Xbox avatar(mine is cute lol)
and the other tiles actually change...

I like it better then the Android homescreen/widget
concept

But i do miss live wallpapers and i still use my cappy
a little bit...But like the surround speakers...live wallpapers
to area gimmick

WM needs to do lots of Homework to get to the level of Android or Iphone. Android was lagging behind few months ago because of less number of Apps.....talk about it, WM have none....it lacks many basic features. Ofcourse customization is gonna be zero is WM, as they are very much like Apple.

If I want to use WM, i would rather wait for few months to get the better version of WM7.

Focus and Captivate is very similar in every way. I even heard Focus has GPS problems lol

Was going to say that the Focus has the same GPS issue since the hardware is based on the Galaxy S. Besides, why would you recommend another Samsung product after all the issues and delays we've seen with the Galaxy S line. With that said, the surround is awful, Engadget has a review and they say the phone is worthless. Not WP7, the actual hardware and build quality.
