Root Safety line Pre-Root Backup?!?!

im slowly learning about this stuff and have never really strayed from computers and im really stuck.

My golden rule is to always have a life line backup system image or factory reset to boot from incase of failure.

i've seen some stuff on the SBF file and if some one could explain if that file completely resets the phone to factory because rooting only effects the sbf or if its just wiping out everything and clean reinstalling..

also is it possible to make a system image or other form of backup PRE-ROOT so i can wreck my phone knowing it's fixable. This would be nice incase of crashes even if i decide not to root.

You can always SBF back to normal or boot into stock recovery. I messed up one time trying to flash and i got into a boot loop. I booted into stock recovery and did a wipe cache and wipe data/factory restore and I was good to go.

All right i think i get all of it except the concept of flashing the sbf. i know what the sbf is but is their a previous thread or something that explains this a little more.

now for a what if scenario. what if i try to root the device and it completely bricks. can the sbf flash still and system recovery still work somehow or would you just chuck the phone.

sorry total beginner in the world of android here

EDIT; found out about RDL and system firmware and the lot. still want to know any links about sbf specifically and what it truelly is. is it the entire stock os or is it only a small part of it as the name implies. im getting mixed messages so sorry
