Why is Eris the black sheep?

Saw a friend today who had a Droid. She loved the phone, except for how "clunky" it is. Showed her my Eris and now she returned her Droid for one. She didn't even know the Eris existed.

This got me to thinking; Why is the Eris the black sheep of the Verzion android family? What it so horrible about it that made Verizon put millions into advertising the Droid, only giving the Eris a pity mention at the end of the ad? What did this wonderful phone do to get treated like a second class citizen? Does anyone else feel the need to comfort your Eris at the end of the day? Defend its honor? sigh, where is Hero Nakamura when you need him...

Well the Eris and the Droid were the first android phones to come out on verizon. Droid was going to have 2.0, Eris wasn't. Also, the Droid is a new phone, when the Eris is much like the hero.

I agree though, they made the Droid a really big deal (which they should have) but they didn't even mention the Eris, which is an amazing little phone.

Hiro! Ya-ta!
I like having a phone that's a bit of an underdog, in the eye of the masses anyway. I think the Droid is awesome, but for me, the Eris is just right. The Eris is like Hero, the Droid is like Sylar. Ok, not really, but I miss watching Heros and I just had to make some cheesy analogy.

HTC is a better company than Motorola. It's one of two reasons I didn't buy a Droid. I don't trust Motorola design. The razors where the crappiest phones i've ever seen, all their dumb phones made me want to punch something. The other factor was the size. I dual-wielrd my Eris (takes up no space) and my hacked iPod Touch.

I completely agree that the Eris is the better phone (for me). But if I were placed in Verizon's shoes I would have advertised the heck out of the Droid as well. For one the Droid is THE phone that is starting Verizon's Droid line. Second, they want people to look at it more as an iPhone competitor. It has a bigger screen, newer OS, and something the iPhone doesnt have, a real keyboard. So when they think Droid (later on) it wont just be the Moto, it will be the Droid line (even though they were advertising the Moto Droid). That's my take.

My guess is Verizon pushed the Moto Droid because of hardware specs and Android 2.0. But after checking out both phones, at Verizon, for all of one minute, on release day, I told the Rep. to bag up one of the Eris's for me !

#1 Selling point for me was "HTC" ! Sorry, but they make superior devices !

#2 The Moto Droid felt cheap and I didn't care for the brick-like look of the phone !

#3 Did I mention the Eris was made by HTC!;)

I've never owned an HTC product before. If they're all made as well as the Eris, I'd agree with you.

I didnt need to go any further than this point. I will NEVER own a Motorola product ... they are cheap and typically have a lot of problems. I have a good friend that used to work at Verizon (up until about a year ago), and he said they get more Motorola phones back than any other brand. Absolute junk.
