Root Misc. Complaints and Questions

So I've finally gotten the hang of flashing ROMS and and quite comfortable with doing so.

But, comfort breeds more questions, and some complaints. Admittedly, the complaints could be because I'm not doing something right.

1. When I backup using Titanium Backup, it doesn't backup everything, althought I'm pretty sure I've selected that option. Also, when I flash a new ROM and load TB, it didn't load back the data from one of my games. I only play 2 games, but it gets annoying starting Angry Birds over every time I flash, and having to play Homerun Battle 3D as "champion" with no items or upgrades. I'm using the FREE Titanium Backup.

2. When new releases of ROMS come out, why can't upgrades be as simple as flashing over current ROM without having to backup and save data? Devs do a great job of constantly improving their product, but after a week of playing and finally getting comfortable with a particular ROM, a new release is out and I've got to backup/wipe/restore all over again.

I'm sure I've got more questions, and others feel free to add their own to this thread. But I'll leave these 2 out there for now.

Thanks in advance, and keep up the great work, Devs!

I'm guessing you didn't get a backup of Angry Birds before you switched Roms.

You'll get used to setting new roms up quickly after wiping. One thing that helps a great deal is using a launcher app such as Launcher Pro etc, then when you restore all missing apps + data, you'll be all set up like you were before icon/homepage wise. Other than that, there's about 10 minutes worth of tweaking the usual suspect settings and you're done.

Well, I thought I did backup. I sucessfully backed up once, Nov 3. That restored my game to the point I was at, then. Before I flashed Myn from New Guy I did a full backup (i thought), but I didn't check the date. When I flashed, Titanium Backup tells me latest backup was Nov 3. I restored it, but it was just the game, from the beginning. It's not terribly annoying, more of an aggrevation at best. I know I'm doing something wrong, just don't know what.

You might consider going with the paid version of Titanium. It's a helluva lot easier to restore apps with a single click. Also, when you restore your apps, are you pressing Menu > Batch or is that not available on the free version?

The foolproof selection when coming from a full wipe is "Restore missing apps with data". (not system data)

Also, make sure you set up schedules for auto backup (may be paid version only, not sure). I set up a full backup of all user apps + system data once per week on Sunday and then redo backups for newer app versions on Wednesday. Some people even go more frequently than that if they flash a lot. That way you keep a fresh backup all the time and they overwrite each other to save card space so no worries there.

A note on my backup plan mentioned above...I very rarely use the system data that I back up each week but might as well get it all saved. Never know when you might want to restore something ala carte from the system due to accidental deletion or app corruption. Normally though, for the purposes of new roms, I'm only restoring apps and their data and NOT system data.
