Nexus One faster than Galaxy S?

So I did some basic test comparing my rooted Nexus 1 on Cyanogen's 6.1 with a friends rooted Samsung Captivate.

To my utmost surprise, N1 beat the Captivate in every test, application loading, startup times, browser speeds etc.

The only place it lagged was graphic performance where FIFA10 lagged just barely on the N1 while it was smooth on the Captivate.

Does anyone else some results to share?

Loving my N1 even more.

The Captivate Android 2.2 was a leak and it's not completely ready yet.

BUT

The thing is that Snapdragon processors are supposed to have more raw computing power and the Hummingbird processors have more graphic power. Some tests may show that Snappy is faster than Hummingbird but those tests don't do the 3D test.

So the N1 is faster if you don't game? :)

I really don't think the N1 is faster then the Galaxy S. I have used a Vibrant and it is a lot more snappier then my N1, even with it running Touchwiz. I believe the N1 can still hang with what's out there but it's starting to show it's age. What still really bothers me is the touch sensor. It was a really big disappointment that Google/HTC cheaped out with the clearpad 2000. The touch screen is the only way to interface with the software (unlike a physically keyboard) with this phone (yea I know about the trackball) and it can be really frustrating sometimes. The new touch sensors just blows the clearpad out of the water.

N1 showing it's age... lol yeah belive that... Cyanogen 6.1 works like a charm on the N1. Flying like crazy no delays. Vibrant has so many bugs you can't even see trough them.

Anyway N1 is not "showing it's age" it's still one of the fastest Android phones, and I gladly have a bit slower phone Vs a slow updated / never updated phone...

The display problem isn't that great and newest radio fixes it quite well.

I read somewhere that the Snapdragons are faster in raw processing power and slower in 3D just because of the slow GPU and bad stock drivers. People are on it. They increased the 3D capability by about 40%. Still not Hummingbird but it's ok.

Who's they? Qualcomm itself? How will snapdragon users see that 40% increase? I've never known a way to update my drivers on the N1.

Or are you talking about custom kernels now?

Harmless isn't talking about our amoleds or the samsung's samoled. He's referring to the digitizer overlay. Which in our case is the wildly inferior Clearpad2000 by Synaptics.
I used to have some troubles whit touches misregistering, especially when plugged in. But never so much and I havn't seen anymore of those bugs since many months now (I think it's since I rooted but I can't say for sure).

In any case, the digitizer is by far the weakest link in our phone hardware.
And while we probably all get used to it pretty fast, I noticed not everyone uses a touchscreen in the same way. My father can't seem to properly scroll through the app drawer without pressing apps (and even I sometimes get that aswell).

Bingo! Thanks for clearing that up. Even playing around with an Incredible is a different experience since the digitizer is superior. When I am browsing the web on the phone it takes anywhere between 1/8"-1/4" of movement before the screen actually moves (this happened on both my N1's). Where as my iPhone 3G and the Vibrant moved along with my finger with no hesitation.

I am not hating on my N1 but I do know it's limitations. With the digitizer being the only way to interact with the phone it can be a frustrating experience. Currently I wouldn't switch phones with any other on the market, but there is better technology out there, the Samsung's digitizer is one of them.

it's one of the most frustrating things about the N1... and seriously what a waste... whoever made that decision should be punched in the face.

A seriously bitching piece of hardware that's limited by its interface?!? that's just an absurd compromise :(

I notice it more and more as time goes by.

my next phone will be a motorola if they pull their head out of their ass and stop locking down their hardware.

Mostly Harmless compared the N1 and Vibrant screens, he didn't mention the digitizer once how am I supposed to know :D I knew he was talking about the actual touch sensitivity etc. But when he compared AMOLED and SAMOLED... I wrote that SAMOLED is different...

Talking about browsing an moving the finger delay... how do you know that the browser isn't built so it moves a bit later than the digitizer tells it? on the test app for the screen you can clearly see that the single finger movement is recorded correctly by the digitizer with no delay.. must be the software that tells it to dalay a bit I gues. on my N1 it's not that visible anyway.. CM6.1 flies circles around stock ROM :D

I dunno for me it looks more like the browser or android app menu is coded to start scrolling slow, pick up the speed of scrolling and then slowly stop, that's why you see it as a lag.

It's probably made that way by Google. Try getting an app that tracks the finger positions and you'll see that tracking is keeping up with the finger.

Proper touch registering depends on more then just finger movement afaik.
For a touch or gesture to properly register there are 3 factors involved, as far as I could gather from the input analysis thing I once used. Finger position, pressure, and a third one I can't recall.
Don't quote me on this, it's been a while and I'm very sleep deprived atm.
But I recon if one of those 3 factors has dodgey recognition by the digitizer, it'll end up messing up touch input.
So you might see your finger tracked properly, but still have bad touch recog.

it's not like i'm saying that the N1 digitizer is perfect.. I know it's flawed. It's just that people might percive flavs that aren't really there because it's just programmed differently than other devices they compare it to.

that's why I said 1 finger :D because I know if you do two.. it's a miss-touch-fest :D

I honestly say that the N1 is faster than galaxy ..why ? Because it's the freakin' Google phone ,and it will always have the latest update [yes ,updates do provide better performance on older hardware] !

Samsung still sucks bolls at keeping their hardware up to date ,and thats a big FAIL for me !

-love my N1 !! [for now at least :D]
