Help charging problem - possible water issue

i have read a ton of the forums to make sure i didn't see an answer to my specific question...

i have the fascinate version of the galaxy and it is not charging ... at all.

my water damage indicator shows x's marked across both the indicator on the phone and battery side. does this mean water damage or not? i'm seeing by most that means no damage.

ok now that you have answered that, my phone was submerged for about 2 seconds... it has a tight case around it and there is not sign of water damage any where... everything looks, feels, worked... until my battery died and now it won't charge.

i have tried:
- taking battery, sd card out
- sprayed with compressed air
- let sit for 24 hours

now i have it in rice in mildly warm area.

i was having some minor gliches with the charging when it was connected to my computer. but it charged fine when charging from the wall outlet.

i'm wondering if the water disrupted the usb port/charging area... any ideas, reco's, tricks?

Yes, I'm 99.99% sure white with purple Xs indicate no water damage so far. Tbh I'm sorely tempted to get water on the sticker just to see what that looks like.

It was having minor glitches with connecting before it got wet? Have you tried a different USB cable? If it was having problems before, it may in fact be that the dang thing just has a bad USB port or something. Granted, I'm no expert on water damage.

Take it back, if it shows no signs of water damage, they should return it as defective

yes it was being a little glitchy prior to the water issue. i don't have another cord (they wanted $30 bucks for the car charger and i wasn't going to pay that! was going to go on ebay but now that they are usb chargers they are all universal, loving that).

i'm stoked that the water didn't get into the unit and in response to you dopepope i am going to do the exchange now i think ... i just wanted to get all my facts straight and any problem shooting ideas off the table first. i HATE dealing with the stores/customer service, etc... that is a sad day when you hate dealing with your providers after the god-awful amount we each month, b/c it's hours of your life you'll never get back...

As a former tech for Verizon, I can tell you the X's mean no moisture damage. All getting water on them does is make the Xs bleed into the white background. Thats how they check for moisture damage. If the indicators are fine, then I would just take it back and have them replace it. There is no reason to tell them about it.

What kind of glitches were you having when charging from a computer?

I noticed that my charging indicator acts a little funky when connected to PC (and with the phone on, obviously). I actually was worried at first, but I have a feeling most of it has to do with the fact that the OS is still running in the background, presumably doing SOMETHING that might cause the charging to slow down, or the animation to hang.

You also have to think about how your USB port might be acting, and what kind of voltage it puts out.

The fact it works fine through the wall outlet makes me think the phone USB port itself is probably fine. Can you connect the phone to the PC and use it for mass storage?

My real guess is that its something with your computers USB port, rather than a fault with the phone.

Oooh..you're right, I hadn't thought of that. Especially if (s)he was using a port on a USB hub or one of the front ports on a computer. (Some USB ports, either on the front/sides of laptops or the fronts of desktops, may not get full power.)
