Root What is the ultimate root app?

From what I understand: The kernel is what allows interaction between the hardware and the software, the rom. You need a good kernel and a good rom to cooperate well with each other.
And the rom is like the software user interface.

Think of a tree. The soil that makes the foundation is the kernel. The tree is the ROM, with all the customizable features (shapes of leaves, smell, wood, color, etc). Without the right soil for the right tree, the tree will fall and/or die.

So, basically....I have no clue. ;)

K, I'm still learning about root, but how do ROM's differentiate from Kernel's?

With a ROM, you can boot your phone up and immediately know what has changed (i.e. lockscreens, fonts, icons, HotSpot works, etc.) With a kernel, you won't really know what has changed until you have used your phone for a while. With a kernel, at the end of the day, you can tell than it seemed to run smoother (or choppier) and that the battery lasted longer (or less). About the only immediate impact a kernel may make is smoother transitions and the ability to overclock via SetCPU.

I would strongly encourage you to use the included kernel on every ROM you flash for a couple of days. Get familiar with how the phone behaves, then flash a kernel for a couple of days. Doing so will help make the effects of a kernel more noticeable.
