Help Some simple questions that I can not figure out with my Nexus one.

I just got my Nexus One yesterday, coming from a Magic this phone is leaps and bounds better.

But I have a couple question.
How do I get calls to vibrate instead of ring? For that matter how do I get texts/emails to vibrate?
I have the phone set to silent, but I have always vibrate checked in the text and email options.

When I got the phone (it was used) it had some kind of launcher that had 4 icons at the bottom that were email, phonebook, messages and internet, not just icons on the screen. I reset the phone to factory and it went away. I thought it was the rom, but I am using the same one now but its still not there. Any ideas?

And with the gallery, I have lots of photos.
And I put a couple different folders into the phone but now I have an "originals" folder with all the pictures I just added, plus the folders I added.
Is there a better gallery app?

Thanks.

As I understand it the native gallery app just displays your pics according to the folder structure on your sd card. If you would like to see them displayed differently in the app I think the only way to do that is to rearrange the folders on the sd card. Anyway see if that fills your needs...if not I guess there may be another app that can arrange them another way, but I doint know.

As far as the notifications, I think all sounds and vibrate features should be adjustable from settings> sound> etc. Everything is there basically. For example you can set everything to vibrate always in the vibrate section.

Now for the doc icons I assume that you are trying to put icons back on there right?
Anyway may I suggest launcherPro. It is a very cool app. There are others that do similar things but this one is my favorite. You can set up scrollable docks so you have 15 doc spaces in all. Just get it from the market and after it is installed hit the menu button and have a look at its features in " preferences".

Hope this helps and that I understood your questions.

I believe silent sets everything off including vibrate. You can turn off silent mode and set ring and notification volume to zero under settings>sound. Or you could use an app like SwitchPro that has a toggle widget that lets you go from full on to vibrate to off with a single screen tap.

SwitchPro Widget - Android app on AppBrain

Probably had a custom launcher like Launcher Pro or ADW.launcher.

The gallery doesn't nest folders. If you have a main "Pictures" folder with 4 subfolders each with 2 subfolders, the gallery will display 9 folders.

AWD.Launcher is it, thank you :)

For the gallery issue this is what I see, sorry for the bad pic, and semi nws.

but the [Originals] folders are not seen when I have the card in my computer???
The one with 58 images was when I had pictures and picture in one folder but I changed it to too, that folder has both those folders images
The one with 3 images is just 3 images from the folder posters, I have no idea why it chose those 3 over the 12 others.

For texts I still get nothing. Ball doesn't even flash. Even when I have the phone off silent. I do get a vibrate and ball color from email though.

As I said, the Gallery app does not nest folders so if you have images in two folders with the same name located in different places on the sd card, it will show them both. My guess on the [originals] folder is that it is marked as hidden in Windows and therefore won't show when you browse the sd card. Gallery will ignore the windows hidden attribute and display it anyway. The other instance of [originals] might be in a hidden trash folder or something. Without seeing the folder structure of your card, I can only guess.

What do you have your notification ringtone set to?

go to settings>sound>notification ringtone ... and also make sure the setting to pulse the light for notifications is set to on.

I deleted the [original] folders without problem. But now I have a MIUI Screenshots folder that seems to recreate itself when I delete it.

I have the ringtone set to some drop sound, which works when I have the sound on, but I never have the sound on. Its always on vibrate.
The light pulse is set to on.

MIUI is a another ROM that must have been on that phone at some point. You a file explorer or mount the SD card and search for MIUI. Somewhere is a MIUI screenshot folder that you can delete.

Has your phone every vibrated? Perhaps the vibrator is broken? What kind of fish tank? Marine or fresh?

I am pretty sure I am running the MIUI rom.
Is there a better one for me to use?

Yes it vibrates for phone calls, emails, and the haptic feedback for the back home and menu buttons.
Just not for texts.

Marine tank. Its only about 5 months old.
