Swype/Shapewriter

Hello fellow Eris owners!

I was excited to try Swype, went to the website, watched the video - shows it on the Eris - Perfect!!!

Not so much... apparently doesn't work with our phone . Has anyone found a way to make this work or heard if there is any progress with getting it for the Eris?

Also tried Shapewriter trial, but after this last update, can't find it in the market anymore. Appreciate any tips you can give!!!

The swype that has been released was the beta version for like a test market. It doesn't work on the eris. It works on the droid and i think omnia and a few others. It seems that the company that created swype is trying to have it be a pre installed app on some new phones. So they haven't and might not for some time release the app on the market. But once swype is released on a few phones, and once the eris is rooted, you will be able to get swype.
Although the company's business strategy may not work out the way they wanted and they may release it on the market.. prob for a few bucks or so.

If Swype works like it did in the demo clip, I'd be willing to pay for it...

Props for those working hard for root on Eris.

Great! If only I could figure out how to "root" my phone! That will never happen Guess I'll have to wait for it to be released.

SlideIt is a great slider keyboard only downside is you have to pay for it

I'm probably missing something here, but I have an Eris (not rooted) and Swype beta works just fine on it.

Not so. It works very well on ERIS. The biggest issue is downloading it. The company was bought out and it is very difficult to obtain the latest version if you had not signed up for the beta.

Next best bet is SlideIT.

I was not impressed with swype it takes up too much screen space with the suggestion box and bogs my phone too much.

Shapewriter is coo but if i had to pick itll be swype no doubt although shapewriter could use share some tips to swype creators.... just saying

If I remember correctly Swype doesn't have the "long press to access sub-character"
i.e. On ShapeWriter I can long press on "a" to select "!".

Not sure if it always has, but Swype does that now for sure.

Can someone please help me. I had swype on my incredible. When the 2.2 update came it erased it and I've searhed the web endlessly and all the versions I've downloaded doesn't work. Can someone please email me at gmackie76@yahoo.com if they know how I put a working version of swype back to my incredible.

It's all good....its just to a an old junk box I use. I just need to get this swype back on my phone. It was so convenient.......need it back.
