How do I switch off predictive text on a Desire?

Every time I try to type anything, every single word results in the predicitve text box appearing giving suggestions which most of the time are wrong. After 30 words or so, it becomes so sluggish that it can take 30secs+ before I can type the next word.

So is there a way of disabling this?

I wonder why it's so slow...I don't have any issues when typing long texts, it works fine no matter how many words. Are you running Froyo v2.2 or Eclair v2.1?

I would never disable it...it's one of the better predictive text dictionaries I've used. It learns as it's used and the more it's used the better it gets.

Have never used preditcive txt since I've had a phone with a keyboard - prefer to spell myself so this is the first thing I do on my phones
With a decent dictionary list of used words, I find I can type quite fast (and a bit sloppy) and it still gets it right. I type full words and sentences though, not the short forms most people use like "r u eston dintr wiy ur gf at mxds". I will write out "Are you eating dinner with your girlfriend at Mcdonalds?". I find it's a lot more clear and I don't get 2 texts back asking me what is eston and where is mxds. And since I can type some 50wpm+ on a qwerty keyboard I can type that out almost as fast as the short forms, but without the sloppy errors and no need to repeat myself with corrections. But that's just me....YMMV.

i do believe that the predictive text on the htc is one of the best, but the only problem is for, and why i had to remove it was, because i live in malta, ans we use words like ux, issa and mela!! i know that the phone stores them and is a brilliant phone, but still after every word i have to stop and choose whitch word i am going to use, and ppl who like to text quickly using quick text mode its not practical either!!
