According to Virgin Mobile UK's web forum team the 2.2 release has finally started to roll but only for those with build version 1.23.351.1
Silly as this was the second version they released. All those people that bought before September will have to wait for a firmware update first...talk about doing things backwards !
Virgin Mobile users in the UK have been waiting since late August when @virginmedia on Twitter tweeter they were to launch froyo "within weeks"

Really bugs me how these big communications companies find it so hard to communicate correctly with their customers.
Oh well it seems the wait may finally be coming to an end.... I certainly won't be holding out for 2.3 Gingerbread from them any time soon!

You should be on 2.10.405.2 at least by now - you're not on a Virgin FW code but the generic Desire...do the following:

1. Download this file:

http://liveimage.htc.com//OTA_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2-1.15.405.4_release_P4ohim1mtp6zggcyon.zip

2. Rename it update.zip (not update.zip.zip)
3. Copy it to the root of your SD card (not into a folder)
4. Turn off your Desire
5. Turn it back on whilst holding volume down
6. At the white screen with the 3 Androids at the bottom, select Recovery using the volume buttons and power to select
7. At the black screen with the red ! hold volume up and press power
8. On the menu select 'apply sd:update.zip'
9. Follow the instructions

This will update you to 1.21.405.2 - you should then get the next OTA update notification to 2.09.405.8 (or perhaps straight to 2.10.405.2). Get this over Wi-Fi to save on mobile data costs

I was on the original build same as zaffaa, but on manually checking updates on my desire just now I have been offered the following update : 1.23.351.1

The update screen looks like it's from HTC as it has their website address for any questions.

It seems that HTC are upgrading me to the second build version in order that I can download 2.2 from VM maybe ?

Anyway installing 1.23.351.1 as we speak, and we'll see where we go from here !

Now my phone won't receive emails as it should every 5 mins and won't charge to 100%, it gets stuck at 99% each time. I fear I may never see that loveable green light again

My 3G wouldn't turn on, so I reset my phone back to factory settings and all good have you tried doing a reset, I know its not the same issue but might aswell try it.
