Troll post and completely off topic (but because I said that, most of you will read it anyway):

When I need a pick-me-up during a long boring stretch at work, I check this thread for some action. It's quite entertaining, and sometimes it's hard to resist jumping into the fray.

There are several sections in this thread where had they been isolated threads, they would have been locked down (name calling, debating the poster and not the topic, posting links to swype, etc). But how can any mod have the heart to lock down a thread that's been around since June, has over 1100 posts, and over 55-thousand views?

Is there any value in this thread? Well that's debatable. Historically, I'm sure there have been several insightful and informative posts in here. And if you were "lucky" enough to tag along for the ride, some part of this thread might even have helped you decide which phone to get. As a whole, this thread has almost no value. Most people aren't going to read the entire thread. They might read the first few pages and the last few pages. And then they'll realize that this is really an entertainment thread.

So grab your popcorn and observe the match. I can't tell you when the next one will happen, but it's bound to be more entertaining than work. Enjoy it before the hall monitors come out and break it up.

The Instinct is Samsung's fault? It ended up working about as well as any of the other crap touchscreen phones with basic proprietary OS's. Blame Sprint there. They are the ones that touted it as an iphone killer and created the consumer expectations will all the marketing. Had it been just another feature phone, the issues it did have wouldn't have been nearly as big of an issue as many of the early touchscreen feature phones out there pretty much stunk.

And I'm sorry, but it's just sad and lame you people feel some urge to go back and forth bashing the phone you don't own. Get over it already.

So wait.. im bashing it by saying that the phone has widespread gps issues... which is a KNOWN fact.. and by saying that Samsung sucks at pushing out updates... which is ALSO a known fact? LOL... you sound mad. And why would I blame Sprint? I didnt care anything about them calling it an iphone killer. I did care about Samsung NEVER sending out any updates for the phone though.;) Just like im sure youll start to care when everyone else has moved on to gingerbread and Samsung still hasnt even pushed out froyo yet.

I'm not mad, it just gets old hearing everyone who hates Samsung (or should I say Evo owners) go back to the Instinct. And if the Instinct was just another feature phone (like it really was) it would be a non issue lumped in to all the other swing and a miss buggy touchscreen feature phones. People wanted it to be a smartphone and it just never was. Sprint plays a role in phones getting updated. They EOL'd the i500 and dumped the i550 after Samsung invested big time in development I'm sure because they were to busy blowing Palm. The i500 needed some simple tweaks due to system changes Sprint made and they refused and told everyone to get a brick of a Palm phone that had its own issues.

I never tried to refute anything about the Epic's bugs. I'm thankfully not really effected by them either. I'm also on record as saying both phones are good with appeal to different groups. I myself probably would never have bought the Epic if I enjoyed typing on screen. It's just not productive when doing DTG work, and I'm just more efficient with a real keyboard, sometimes quicker than using swype. Neither phone to me was worth jumping to the other unless you had a deal breaker or two in there.

As far as updates, the Moment just recently had an update pushed to it. And it ain't gettin' 2.2 just like the Hero and Eris which haven't really had any updates either. If people are going to trash a company on updates, at least get the argument right. Trash the Behold II for getting jilted at the 2.1 altar.

But really, I had zero respect for your post the minute you said you were an Instinct owner ;) I'm sure you were all set to throw it in your iphone loving friends' faces, and were like, damn, it sucks. (I kid, I kid)

If that's directed at me, I owned both phones since they were released and posted often about both. Don't think any of my pro comments slander either. And I never bashed either. Having a physical keyboard is very much a preference. Some love them, and some don't. It's probably one of the biggest deciding factors between the two.

Lol. No no no, that wasn't directed at you. Just a general statement poking fun at the thread.:D
Guess it was just bad timing.

Well...quite frankly...I never cared nor needed your respect. With that said ive had almost every PPC from windows mobile to the inkstink to iphones to droids. If the phone is "hot" when it comes out ill try it. I just know Samsungs reputation from having dealth with their products in the past and trust me, the instink was NOT the only one. As a matter of fact yall have one of the perfect examples of their lack of support now.

Its a nice phone but I just cant.. or should I say wont give my money to a company that doesnt support their products. Worst thing is, I..along with many other people said it would be like this before it even went on sale.

Yeah having both phones is amazing. I will say this though, the EPIC is slightly faster than the EVO.

I started to find that out the more I compared like apps. I don't have gps issues since I don't use it often, and I finally felt comfortable enough to pass my evo on to another rep.

The sad part is, in Europe, they have no 4-4.3" slider options. Just slates. So no choice for them. You'd think someone would get on that. The Venue Pro in Android form could be huge over there.

Yeah epic definitely has evo beat on terms of pure speed, and the gpu actually made neocore run much faster than on the evo as well. (Not to mention how beautiful the screen is).

The GPS in the epic, however, frankly sucks. It is good enough for location based services, but useless for navigation.

What, no one wants to battle me? Fine, geez, I'll do it myself.... (continued from 2 posts ago...)

well the epic *insert generic retaliation directly attacking the evo, but agree that both are good phones and it depends on the user.

I bet *insert passive-aggressive retort aimed at poster, heating up the debate.

*insert random opinion about the evo stated as fact and deny passive-aggressive attack.

Yeah right, *insert statement calling posters opinion bs, and state own opinion played off as fact.

Shure buddy, *insert statement calling posters opinion "completely wrong", and back it up with proven fact about the epic being better than the evo.

Touche, but *insert proven fact about the evo being better than the epic and end with random proven fact that has nothing to do with the current discussion.

*takes the bait and refutes the off topic fact.
*continues the off topic debate.

*10-15 posts per side later...

*mod steps in and threatens to close thread if it strays off topic any longer.

*both posters go their separate ways for fear of being banned.

Whew that guy was a good debater, both phones are great I recommend them both.

And as one final tidbit...

*mod warns/bans evoixmrftw for his completely useless and schizophrenic post while other forum members clearly state how they find evoixmrftw's post annoying.

Funny thing. The only head to head I did was when I came home from the shore. Main highways were packed so I took back roads for two hours. Epic on one side of the center dash, evo on the other.

Both phones took the same amount of time to get a route. Both had the tiny circle around the indicator. Both rerouted within a second or two of one another and tracked the same. I as expecting to see the epic get blown away from what I had read. This was about a week after it's release when I was taking pics of both screens in that bright summer sun. Once in a while I'll get the slow to lock, but I normally keep gps off so I don!t really have that issue. I tend to keep things off until I need them.

Outside of that lock/cache issue, is there a problem I'm missing?

The GPS in my Epic isn't as accurate as the EVO's.

With google latitude, it actual showed them (while sitting next to each other) as up to 1400 ft apart. (Says the same on the EPICS google maps as well. )

However with both a moto cliq, and a g1, we are all right next to each other.

Ummmm at some point, sales numbers does account for something whether you like it or not.

Epic does not even have 2.2. It is made by Samsung (that alone makes it worse off the bat). Crappy, cheap plastic keyboard.

That's sort of like saying that no one should buy a mac.or use linux because windows dominates the market...

Or like saying that everyone should avoid the evo because the sprint ppc-6600/6700/6800 (all htc, I believe) had issues... (i have had all 3 of those, and all had issues).

I understand loving your phone, I love mine, but I don't get the hatred of others. The epic is a very capable device, in my humble opinion.

Cheers...

agreed, not as accurate, but not unusable for basic navigation... If I was hiking in the wilderness, I'd want the evo's gps, but for basic route navigation, the epic is plenty capable, in my opinion.

If I'm 200 feet off course and can't find the restaurant I want, I'm a moron.

Sadly, the iPhone is a huge success due to the amount of morons in this world
