you will need clockwork mod installed which requires a computer and the odin3 program. otherwise you cannot make backups (nandroids) and if you screw up in removing bloatware you are.........screwed.

please read over the stick up top in this forum.

the 2.2 ota will remove root most likely and if you have bloatware frozen/removed you wont get it

hey world! just got my fascinate a few days ago ( an awesome upgrade from my D1 rooted) so from what im gathering the froyo update is comming were just not exactly sure when... just hopefuly soon. so i think im going to wait to root till after the update. but in the mean time im trying to find the easiest way to root a fascinate. (sry im a noob and dont want an expensive paper weight!) previously i used soup or root for my D1 with flawless sucsess first try. i feel comfortable with zips and back up files but i get scared in the android shell or comm and prompt stuff... scary crap lol. any sugestions? oh and is there a way to UNroot without flashing roms? i heard thats where most brickings happen. i just want to remove bloatware, overclocking and wifi tethering.

welcome:)
froyo is coming soon when who knows probably in the next 6 weeks but thats not saying much
Root is simple fast and easy here:How to Root - Android Forums
Once you do that I'd recommend throwing Clockwork on there Clockworkmod installation how to for windows / *nix - xda-developers
and flashing jt's clean rom which essentially will de-bloat and un-bing you [ROM] Super Clean De-Binged DI01 + AOSP apps - Updated 10/30 Version 0.4 - xda-developers.
Im a die-hard overclocker [H] style FTW, however all the OC kernels we have for SF pale in comparision to this: [KERNEL] StupidFast v1.0.36 (Stable) - xda-developers
trust me this is best

awesome thank you! so i have my phone rooted now using Z4 very affective and working okay.. i have noticed a few more laging moments than stock as well as temp spikes. i had to download a different wifi tethering app which is now working perfect! and i re downloaded set cpu speed and started exploring with it... when i noticed it only gets up to 528? i could over clock my D1 to 800. so now i know i need a kernal? any word on how to install those and does anyone prefer one? secondly do i even need a cpu speed thing? im more than happy with my speeds i guess i just dont want to overheat my phoneusing wifi tether or something? would it be fine on its own. maybe install a basic temp app just in case then manualy shut off apps if it over heats?
thanks guys sry i know im a noob.

even though u used my #1 enemy in the world (1 click root) i *suppose* ill still help :)

in setcpu click on the soft key menu button. then pick device selection and autodetect speeds. then it will configure itself for the device/kernel you have.

also the sf does not overheat even on oc kernels (well what we have now anyway) so temp is not a concern
