Help Samsung Mezmorize back up?

Take a look at the "Lookout" app in the market. It has a backup function in it that works very well.

It also depends on what your "data" is as to what kind of app would be most useful. Are you carrying around a lot of music and video? Most of the premium music apps have a sync functionality.

If you're using a lot of docs or files, you can get a bluetooth file utility and/or dropbox.

Last but not least, you can keep your contacts backed up if you keep them all as google contacts attached to your account. (If you want them to be phone contacts, the lookout app will back those up)

Although you can "mount" your SD card via the USB cable, its not really necessary (at least, not in my experience so far). The Allshare app on your phone will let you do a lot of stuff wirelessly. Dropbox and several similar utilities will potentially cover the other reasons why you'd need to file transfer via USB.

for your contacts - you can use My Contacts Backup (there is a link on the US Cellular homepage) or as previously stated, link them to your Gmail Account. I prefer the Gmail way, but thats my opinion. (if you want to know how to do this, I can post this as well)

There are apps that LaTuFu stated works fine, or if you do want to have them on your computer here is how...
1. Plug in your Android via the USB cable to your computer. Let the computer install the recommended drivers.
2. Once you see the “USB” symbol on the top of your phone, drag down the top menu status bar.
3. Click on the symbol - it should say something like “select to change USB connection type” or "USB Connection". Click this option.
4. Select “mount” as disk drive and click done. Your computer should now have a window that pops up.
5. Find the “Open Folder to View Files” button, and click OK
6. From here, you can view everything on your phone. Then it is a simple "drag and drop" to your folder of choice on your desktop computer.
7. When you are done, reverse these steps (un-mount the phone and unplug).

Hope that helps!

I have a ton of important data on my phone. The USB cord seems like it is just for charging. Is there anyway to back up my phone like I could with my blackberry on my computer. Is there a program in the market place that will save all of my data somewhere in case I lose my phone, or it breaks?

Check out MyBackup Pro on the Market. I bought it and have been happy with it.

That would be great, if that is all you want to back up. Personally, I would like access to a full nandroid backup. Unfortunately, we are still lacking in this department. Until one of the devs incorporates our ROM into one of the recoveries, we are left out in the cold. With everything that you can do with smart phones these days, you really need a complete back up solution, not just files. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long before this happen. I'm trying to learn some of the coding myself to help out, but I'm new to this so it's rough going.

Amen, and props to you for trying!

If you don't root your phone, Nandroid backup is overkill (assuming it were possible without rooting). If you have backed up your data, you have done all you need.

Good luck on your project, though.

I rooted the minute I got the phone out of the box. I hadn't even activated it yet. My data is the least of my worries, as it gets backed up automatically by the network. I tend to get into the inner workings more than I should just because I can and I just want the added protection that a full Nandroid backup would give me. I've figured a few things out already, and I'm willing to take a few chances to learn more to try to learn more.

We'll see what happens. I might get lucky... or not. lol

Glad to hear that rooting has worked well for you. I understand completely why the Nandroid backup is useful to you.

My point was, for the vast majority of users, (the overwhelming majority of people who buy these phones don't root them) its not something that they will need to do or know how to do, thats why it isn't likely you'll find an app for it in the market. (At least not any time soon)

I'll be interested to hear how the root access works out for you. I haven't seen many people writing about it on these phones.

I would be tempted to try it, if it wasn't a work phone...
