Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

got my update this morning in Baltimore.

First thing I notice is that every widget or program on EVERY screen basically has been overlapped with the same widget or program. There are two of the same thing on top of each other

Example- I have gmail unread count. I have a new email and I can't really see the red bubble with the number of unread emails. It's appears to be behind something. So I go to remove the widget and put it back but all I did was drag the envelope and there was another gmail unread count underneath and it was showing the red bubble properly. I have now noticed this with every icon on my screen. So ****ing annoying. I had to do the same thing with hotmail, twitter, handcent etc...

anyone have this issue???

Yes, the same thing happened to me, sort of. When the update was finished, my desktop was completely blank -- all seven screens. I rebuilt it piece by piece in roughly the same fashion as before the update. Later I restarted and all of the rebuilt icons were on top of the original icons. I started from scratch (removed/rebuilt everything) and it all seems to be fine now.

Still wondering about the so called Yahoo! IMAP improvements that I queried a few posts earlier, though.

I had this issue after I got the update to Froyo back when they pushed that OTA. My icons never stacked, but on my main home screen I have the small HTC clock and weather widgets. Those would stack all the time. It only did that for like a week after the update and then it stopped. And it hasn't happened since then. My guess is that it is a glitch in the update that works itself out eventually.

Got the OTA this morning and while it's to early to really evaluate everything aside from the obvious Verizon additional crapware, I did test out the shift from portrait to landscape orientation, previously very laggy. The lag appears to be gone and the screen now shifts almost instantly. Chalk up one positive so far.

Am I the only one who's phone went straight into the twilight zone with this update? The install went fine, my phone rebooted and everything was fine EXCEPT when I clicked on my photo gallery, it showed all the albums like normal and then suddenly it said there were no photos or videos found and my notifications bar said that the SD card was removed suddenly. I've rebooted the phone, and every time it says the same thing. It says I've got the card mounted, then when I try to open any apps or photos that are stored on it, it suddenly says that it was removed suddenly. Now when I take the SD card out and put it into my computer, it wont even open it up either. What have I done and what do I do now?? Any suggestions?

Something similar happened to me when I got the 2.2 (Froyo) update - basically it fried my microSD card and I had to buy a new one. Your experience makes me a little leery of installing this update. I got the notification last night that the update is ready, but I haven't installed it yet.

Updated last night... my phone and the wife's. I had the double icon issue for all apps and widgets. She did not. I'm getting the SD disc mounting notification repeatedly. Powering off and on, no change. I can clear the icon and it comes back after a while. I can see all the files on the SD card... other than the icon reappearing... there doesn't actually seem to be a problem.

I have the same problem...sometimes I will get a list of directorys/files on the card but can't access it further than that. Same when I put the Sd card in the computer! I can't even copy the contents to my computer.

I'm thinking it's just bad timing because my SD card just died on me the other day out of the blue, almost exactly as you describe. Luckily I always plug the phone in on some interval and mount the SD card to the laptop and copy all the SD files to backup

Since then I ordered a couple extra from amazon in case it happens again (which of course now it won't since i have spares)

Good luck

Anybody else have an problems with the SD card after the update? My card got fried when I installed the Froyo update and I had to buy a new one. I don't want that to happen again. Anybody have any ideas if taking the SD card out and then installing the update would make it more or less likely to cause problems?

OK, how is that done and will it effect the card as others are now having issues?

Not exactly sure on "manual" updating this thing and sure do not want to hose it up as I use the phone for business.

Thanks,

Deanski

Pretty much what you do is you find the update file [im not sure if im allowed to post it here or not] put it on your SD card, not in a folder or anything, make sure to rename it update, not update.zip, that will make it update.zip.zip, you'll get an error.

turn the phone off then reboot holding the volume down button. you'll see the bootloader screen, now for me at that point it was in HBoot, and it started doing the update by itself.
if youre rooted, it will break root, if everything goes well you'll see the successful screen for update 3.26.605 something. it did stay at the red droid eye for a few before it finally updated everything

the update shouldnt mess up your phone or SD card, youre just applying it manually instead of OTA, its official and is real.

you can pm me if you need any other help with it

I got the update late last night! I got all the crap-ware from verizon. I don't have the overlap icons problem ( I dont think at least). It does seem to run smoother, and calls sound better. Also, I like how when I get a text, mail...etc.. in the Notification bar it shows a little number (eg 1) in green next to it. Nice little add-on. Battery still sucks though.
I am proably going to Root my phone now..Sick of the games Verizon is playing. I want back the open-ness they had with the Droid 1 (at first) back. Enough

Can anyone verify that Amazon MP3 no longer works using 3g?

I got the update last night. I don't see the benefit of anything they've changed. Verizon should be embarrassed by the quality of the VCAST app store, they should have quit making applications in their Moto RAZR days. If you haven't gotten it yet don't get too excited about this OTA downgrade...
