Does anyone else think HTC should have used a better user design?

Coming from a Palm Treo to the Hero was a huge step backwards as far as user friendly.Things like being able to re send a text,setting up contacts,syncing issues,bluetooth pairing and the list goes on.You would think 5 yr. old tech. such as the earlier Treo's would be the one behind the curve,HTC could have learned a lot from them if they'd bothered to investigate a little.
The Hero does some things well but basic ph. use and other basic functions isn't it's strong points.
Sure there's an app.for many things but why should a person have to spend hr's searching for app's,work a rounds and customizations to make it do basic functions , as a 5 yr.old ph..IMO no ph. should require more than an hr.to setup & acclement themselves to it,especially if they're used to smartph,/pda's..

Most of your issues are actually Android more than HTC. Androids are not really usable right out of the box, like say an iPhone, but are defiantly more fun and frustrating at the same time to customize and make everything work the way you want it to.

Yep, those are definitely Android issues. I hate having to dig for simple settings but whatcha gonna do?

It may be an Android thing and I understand the idea behind customization but it seems to me the basic functions & format should have been thought out better,just my opinion. I didn't grow up in the computer generation which puts me at a distinct disadvantage.

It is frustrating but luckily for us if there is something that doesn't work the way we want it to...there's usually an app for that!

I'm not really sure what you guys are doing but I find most Android devices very usable out of the box. However there are many apps to make use of Android better but still out of the box Android is far better than most OS.

Android is usable out of the box, no question. But for someone like me who needs specific functions or features which Android does, but aren't enabled by default, having to dig seven screens deep to turn something on or change a simple setting is silly.

Something like WiFi should be able to have DNS servers specified without using a static IP. That's pretty standard cross-platform, ignoring the fact that Android is Linux-based.

HTC has done a great job in the attempt to bring all of Android's functionality to the everyday user but only so much can be done.

Android still has a long way to go before it hits maturity.

I realize each os has their own way of doing things but basic things like setting up contacts was much more difficult & problematic than any ph. I've used.Coming from Palm with a real keyboard was my 1st mistake,granted thats my mistake.
I think since basic cell ph's have been around for 20 yr's that basic setup/function would been easier/better by learning from what is already known to work well.Of course my expectations were somewhat clouded coming from a fairly advanced os.,so I didn't think about the basics being an issue.It's not a big deal now but the learning curve took longer than I expected.Because I like most things about Android os doesn't mean they can't improve, learn from the past & others mistakes.I won't even get into the BT & dial lag issues because thats another issue ,& been widely discussed.

Yeah, it's funny, I just had this conversation with my kid brother who is looking at getting his first android and his first smartphone.

Android has a steep learning curve for sure, but it's almost necessary because android is capable of SO MUCH MORE than the other phones available.
