New Text Message Character Counter

I noticed this issue when I updated the phone and it was annoying. I installed handcent and didnt like it at first but forgot to turn off the notification feature. So when I started getting txts pop up in it I gave it another shot and actually like it better now.

+1 for hancent to get rid of txt counter.

Am I the only one that doesn't care for Handcent? I think the built in SMS app looks a lot nicer. Granted, that new character counter gets in the way occasionally, but it still doesn't bother me enough to switch to Handcent. I tried Handcent out for a day and just didn't like it. I like the look of the built in one.

Today I apparently went over my 160 character limit and received a txt message from Verizon stating that non-Verizon recipients of the txt will only see the first 160 characters. My friend confirmed that he only received half my txt msg. So freaking annoying!

This is one reason why I came to like handcent. Under settings, there is an option to split 160. Auto splits sms when its length is longer than 160 and sends 2 msgs.

I'm not a big fan of Handcent at all. I found it to be far too laggy. I ended up going with Chomp.
