Juice Defender with 2.1

I'm a loyal Juice Defender user. That thing has saved me so much battery life. I do NOT use task killers -- strictly Juice Defender -- and I had fantastic battery life.

Since installing 2.1, my battery life seems equally fine don't get me wrong, but I noticed something.. with 1.6 I couldn't get above 1.9x improved battery life, which was plenty for me don't get me wrong. It was reading anywhere from 1.5x to 1.9x

But now, after only running 2.1 for a day, Juice Defender is showing a 2.2x battery life increase.

I thought "Yay! ... wait.. wait that may not be good" haha.

That could mean one of two things.. it's either saving me more battery life, OR... it's having to deal with more crap to keep the same battery life as before. I'm not sure which it is.

Either way I'm finding my battery life to be very good especially in idle mode. I used to lose quite a bit of battery life in idle and today was the first day I put it down at 100% and went back to it 30 minutes later and it was STILL at 100%. I sort of did a double-take... I don't think I've ever seen that happen :D

I took a look at my husband's Juice Defender and I also notice on his Acer, which came with 2.1, that JD is also showing a 2.x battery rating. I find it interesting.. I wonder what the difference actually is, hrm.

... I just realized I didn't really ask a question here :D I guess it's more of an observation.

my juice defender is showing 1.76 on 2,1 and it showed the same on 1.6. its auyto configured and i havent touched anything in it. i find it runs fine the way it is. the only thing i find is that ive actually run my battery down faster in 2.,1 than i used to in 1.6. i checked why and the brightness of the screen seems to be my issue. i like it bright and i havent figured out an auto setting for it yet.

what are your juice defender settings?

Can I ask you a question then? :D

How do you use your phone? I have the internet turned off most of the time unless I want to use it and I tried juice defender and I found it didn't really help I was using the free version though. Is it more for people who want internet updates all the time?

I use a taskkiller, I tried going without after reading that android doesn't need one and using a startup thingie but my battery drained faster.

cheers

My settings are default. I was once told you don't have to change a thing with JD, just load it and let it do its thing -- and that's what I did.

For the record, my husband and I both use the "Toggle mobile data" widget that comes with Juice Defender, so when we're done using 3g, we always turn it off. That's probably where we find the extra boost in battery life I'd imagine over what you're seeing? We also keep our brightness at low to medium but that has nothing to do with juice defender.

We're not "stream constantly from the internet" kinda people.

I turn wifi off 100% of the time (I have a 6-gig data plan and I'm never even near the limit, even with tethering to my netbook on a regular basis via PDANet), and I turn 3g off when it isn't in use. I turn 3g off -using- Juice Defender though (see above, the widget is called "Toggle mobile data" when you have it installed) so I'd imagine that is giving me a boost in what it considers to be battery life extension.

However I haven't changed what I do from 1.6 to 2.1, so where the extra jump to over 2x battery life is actually coming from, I'm not 100% sure.

I'm not someone who needs to stream updates from the internet all the time, I just don't understand that culture I guess. I don't need every twitter and facebook update every second on the second. I'm very patient. :D I'd rather save my battery life for e-book reading (I use my X10 frequently via Kindle for Android) or playing games.

I only use the free version of Juice Defender, I have not purchased Ultimate Juice though I may just to support the project as I've gotten a lot out of it.

Android does not need task-killers, that is an accurate statement.
