Calander reminders

These solutions don't change the default reminder time. They turn reminders off altogether. So if I want to create an event with no reminder and another with a reminder, I won't actually get reminded when the second one is due.
That's correct, you can't set the reminder default time to less than 5 minutes. However, there is a way around it if you don't want any reminders by default (like me since I have the small calendar "agenda" widget on my home page to show upcoming events so each time I look at the phone I see the event within 7 days and don't need an audible reminder).

To do this open the Calendar, press Menu, More, Settings, Reminder settings, Set alerts & notifications, drop down box to OFF. This will disable the reminder completely for all calendar events. It does not affect other alerts or notifications in the rest of the system like texts or emails or voicemails, only the calendar events, but it removes all event reminders.

Once that option is set, you can then go into any event and press Menu to add a reminder and then set the time for that one event. You have to do this manually for each event you want with a reminder. And when you create a new event, just tap Menu to add a reminder to the new event and you're all set.

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. Most of the time I don't want reminders, especially if I'm using the calendar to record something that's already happened. For those few times I do want a reminder, I don't mind the extra effort of adding one manually; it saves a much greater amount of effort than having to manually reset the reminder on every item I input.

Any idea if its possible to change the default to 'none', rather than 10 minutes, for reminders. Its just a little irritating having to cancel reminders every time I create a new appointment

thanks
You sure you want this though? They irritate me too but I still want them, I still want to just click my phone reminder to remind me because sometimes Im doing something when the reminder goes off and I completely forget about it till the reminder kicks in.

Think about it and tell me I'm wrong ;)

@bfkc Seems that my unbridled joy at being given a solution was a little premature. In short: it didn't work. I disabled alerts and notifications in the Calendar app, then created a test event. I set the time for about 10 minutes into the future, then added an reminder for 5 minutes before the event time. And 5 minutes before the event time, nothing happened. So I tried it with different time periods and still nothing happened. When I enabled alerts and notifications again, they went off as I expected.

Did your solution actually work on your phone?
