Help Sansung Galaxy Apollo won't play my AVI & MKV files

hi i have a brand-new Sansung Galaxy Apollo i5800 (UK) but it won't play any AVI & MKV files for some reason. i have checked the files can play on my PC and my Digital Freeview box and have used the Samsung Kies software in uploading them but doesn't seem to work.

is it a factory defect? what shall i do?

advice please....

The phone doesn't support those formats.
It only plays DivX, Xvid, wmv, MPEG4, Real and the H.263 and H.264
You'll have to convert them.

from what i can understand the AVI and MKV formats are containers of its main/root format which is Divx and H264 respectively. that's from what i know.

if they are containers then the phone should be able to support these formats.

or am i wrong?

Your wrong, even if the phone understands the codecs, it doesn't know how to get inside those particular containers, eg MKV.

there are many other media players in the Market that can play the files you have, have a search.
It's probably easier than converting all your files.

If you need to convert your vids.. check out PsP Video Converter and just use the iphone/ipod profiles and the default player has no issues playing anything

use avi player from market to play avi files and dont use mkv files galaxy finds it difficult to play it even with players.

Well, Not being able to play particular formats is a common issue on many embedded systems.
To convert to formats understandable by Galaxy3, try the following softwares:
1. On Linux, try ffmpeg. (look for ffmpeg on google, you should get lot of info.)
2. On Windows, try Super. (SUPER &copy)
3. On Windows, the KIES s/w itself comes with a converter.
