"Phone" contacts vs "People" contacts

I have been trying to figure this out and can't. I have all my contacts set up under people. But, when I tap "phone" I get all those people PLUS everyone on my dang facebook. I didn't set it up like that so I'm assuming it has to do with either friendstream or facebook syncing. I don't necessarily want ALL those people in my contacts. Is there a way to change that?

People > Menu > View > Uncheck Facebook
Thanks, but when I did that, Facebook was already unchecked. I only want the people in my address book that I added to show up. Those people are there under "people", but when I go to "phone" (on the home screen) those people PLUS all my facebook contacts are there. When I go to "phone" I just want the people I put in my address book to show up.

thanks, at least its not me. What if i erase the SIM contacts and only use google contacts? Any downside?

I suggest choosing one primary contact service/client to centralize all your data whether it be Google, Outlook, or otherwise.

As devices, wants, needs, and so forth change over time....any issues can be dealt with easier considering your dealing with one environment.

Choose the service you feel is the most robust and future proof. Choosing SIM as your primary method, for example, is not advised.

Start by exporting your SIM data and import to Google. No contacts lost and Google offers a tool to merge any duplicates.

thanks. So, there's really no benefit to having any SIM saved since I have them all in Google, right? Google will then be my only place with saved contacts.

this my exact set up i use gmail for all my contacts and deleted all the contacts from the sim...this eliminated the duplicated contacts... that way if i have to hard reset or upgrade roms as do this often(rooted) i just login with gmail account and within minutes all my contacts are down loaded to the phone with all contact images

Settings in People: Enabled "Only contacts with phone number" & "Google"
(in this format I have only my desired contacts which I can link to facebook accounts individually for info such as birthday/contact pictures/additional emails)

I really hated the linking of google to phone to SIM to facebook, because if you ever have to reset your phone its a huge pain in the ass to do them all over again and just messy as no one source contains all your contacts.

I also was coming from a windows phone that synced to Microsoft Outlook
(SIM cards are also obsolete I feel. They only hold basic information)

My solution was to just make everything into google contacts. How?

1. In outlook export all contacts to vCard format (which can be opened nicely in excel for further editing)
2. Export all contacts from SIM card to vCard format
2b. Export all phone contacts to vCard format (but you really should of been saving all new numbers as google contacts to start)

3. In Excel quickly glance over all the many fields (majority of which will be empty anyways) and edit as needed. Personally I only kept Names, Emails, Phone Numbers

4. In Gmail, Import various vCard files. They will be added to you My Contacts
5. There is a merge all duplicate options. You can double check the sited entries before going through with the merger. It's more or less 100% accurate in my opinion.

6. If there are any discrepancies like 2 different mobile numbers/or emails, both will be saved. You can go back and choose which to keep or keep both

Delete all outlook/sim/phone. you can make a master vCard from google contacts before hand for your paranoia

Voila all your contacts are now google.

In addition there's a marvelous app on market called syncmypix. It will update all your google contacts on your phone with current facebook photos and import those current pictures to your google contacts. So your gmail wont look as boring!
