Android Phone 7 Theme

Here is what im working on right now. I only have the one screen done but what do you guys think? I was thinking each screen will be devided by a theme like social, games, media etc.

As much as I (personally-sorry) don't like the look of the images inside the rounded-rectangle box... I would like to know how you did it. Is it just an image you created as a wallpaper and have transparent widgets over them for activation? Or are they each individual image widgets?

I am thinking, though, that it is a wallpaper since the bottom of the larger rounded-rectangle protrudes into your dock.

Just curious. Thanks for posting!

Everything seems to be coming along fine... I think you're getting the hang of it.

Now for the critique (don't think less of me and, of course, feel free to ignore me completely)...

The text on the "shopping" (as well as the "tools", "ebay" and "comics") icon came out perfect, but it looks like the "hockey" and "media" ones are in lowercase instead of uppercase.

Don't forget to set the "Auto-Fit Items" option in LauncherPro (if that is what you're using). See: UPDATE: Enable LauncherPro Auto-Fit Option for Android 7 Theme post if you need to know.

Finally, and this one will help you out with future posts, when you're posting images using ImageShack, post the link that is listed under "Embed This Image" -> "Forum".

Overall, good work! Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for response.

Not sure what happened re Auto Fit but have enabled it again.

Re the Letters, they are all in Capitals so little confused on that one.

I will take another look at them tonight though.

Thanks for the image help, will do in future.

i made the wallpaper, then i just made the edges of the widgets transparent so the wallpaper shows through it. it would have been easier to get everything lined up if i made it all one wallpaper and used transparent widgets but then it wouldnt allow me to have multiple homescreens.

as for not liking it...im not entirely sure how i feel about it either i just wanted to try to put my own spin on this idea instead of having it look just like all the others

HI all,
I figured out why my icons were not lining up properly:
i had to turn the the notifications bar back on, with it on, i don't have to do the autosize thing.
with it hidden, autosizing did nothting to linethings up.

any ways, below is my current home screen, and some of the icons i made.
will work on more icons tonight.
please enjoy.

It's good to think outside the box... and pretty much everything in this thread is just that.

About the possibility of making your layout easier, you can use an app like MultiPicture Live Wallpaper, which lets you have a different wallpaper on each homescreen.

Awesome job on the icons and layout. Just in case you didn't see it, though:

DROID Incredible Desktop Visualizer Image Dimensions With Notification Bar Hiding

The EVO has the same resolution as the Incredible, so the dimensions in this link should work if you want to keep your notification bar off.

Thanks for posting the icons. They will be added to the library!

In answer to your question, let me quote from Post 1, Page 1:

"No LauncherPro widget resizing is necessary!"

However (there is always an exception), if you want to make widget sizes other than the standard ones that Desktop Visualizer uses, you will need the paid upgrade for LauncherPro Plus in order to resize the widgets after placing them. See this post for why and how to do this: Image Resizing Using Photoshop.

Although, I would recommend purchasing LauncherPro Plus at least for the sole reason of supporting the developer of this awesome application.

We can try and help to figure out why your "sizes seem off" if you post some full-size screenshots of your layout. The only things I can immediately think of are: 1-Make sure you're using the correct sized image dimensions or images for your device's resolution (Fascinate=480x800, same as the Incredible, should work the same), 2-Make sure you have the "Auto-Fit Items" options set in LauncherPro (see this for details: UPDATE: Enable LauncherPro Auto-Fit Option for Android 7 Theme).

Hope this helps. Please post again if you need more help.

Thanks a million to you and others who have given me this new freedom in designing this phone. Yes, LPP would allow resize and I will likely do it but I am running a pure black background (colors app) and in this case size really does not matter so much. I tried the trial of Photoshop and of course it would not "extract" thus I could not open it. I was able to use Paintshop Pro and the free photoscape to "get by" with some of my own pics but you have set the benchmark. I should be able to be pretty slick with it if I can get the danged thing open to access Photoshop. You are to blame for me missing football all day getting this phone set up :D. Can't wait to show the iphone boys at work. Thanks again.

Try GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program. I think it was Excedio who turned me on to this. It is a VERY full-featured image editing software that is completely free, works very much like Photoshop, and can open, edit, and save Photoshop files. I used it (briefly... I do own CS4, though) and it seems to work very well with almost all of the same features as Photoshop.

Excedio even made templates for GIMP: HTC Incredible Desktop Visualizer GIMP Templates by Excedio.

Be sure to post screenshots when you're done.

Thanks!

Thanks Paul,
I did miss that- I should quit being lazy and read thru the thread before asking
I will probably make more icons with the new dimensions to give it a go.

BTW,
Does anyone know how to make an icon go straight to the ON/OFF feature of the Wi-Fi, GPS or HOTSPOT using Desktop Visualizer; you know, so that when you click on the icon, it turns either one on or off, and not take you to the settings part of it.
When i click on my Wi-Fi icon i made, i can only get it to go to the main Wi-Fi screen, like so:

You guys are great, thanks so much for posting pics we can use. Here is what is odd. On a few screens of mine, they look like yours with minimal space between icons. I purchased the Plus to allow resizing of widgets but it makes them smaller with smaller pics within the smaller widget. Making it larger increases the widget space but not the icon. Oh well, the developer deserves $2.99 for support. This seems to be an issue only with 4x1 stacked on top of each other. I'll rearrange to address this. I put 4x1 pics in paint and did a huge resize only to have the pic look exactly the same on the phone as the original size icon. Again, various size widgets look good much like what I see with screen shots here, it's the 4x1 stacked that has big gaps. Any thoughts? Thanks. I have the Fascinate

Post one of the 4x1 images and I'll take a look at it. Screenshots wouldn't hurt, either.

Do you see that SwitchPro Widget between the picture icons? That's because I have still yet to find a way of having these simple on/off actions work in any other way. I have tried every possible thing I can think of but there is no way of getting a Desktop Visualizer widget to do anything except open an app or perform a shortcut or a limited selection of direct actions (ie. alarm clock).

I just assume that it's impossible for one widget to perform the action of another widget. But, I'll tell you... I have no idea how to code an app but I'm really close to forcing myself to learn just so I can make on/off, message and email counters, etcetera that match the Windows 7 "Living Tiles" widgets. That would really push this "Android 7 Theme" over the top.

(I just started working with the "App Inventor"... maybe this will help me get the hang of programming apps.)

So how do you get notifications of missed messages on the dock, without the stock icons? I've tried changing HTC's MAIL to a custom icon, and the red dot does not show up, indicating missed email.

SkinJob,

Okay, now you can set the LauncherPro dock with notifications... but:

...as you can see, it only works with missed calls, unread SMS, and unread Gmail.

There may be mods that do more. Check XDA- those guys are always hacking apart and rebuilding apps to add features.

Hey,

I have been trying to figure this out using GIMP. I downloaded the program and the templates for GIMP. I'm trying to match the font Agency that you used in Photo shop on GIMP. Does anyone know what its called in GIMP and how I get it to look the same. Everytime i click on the text to edit it it changes to some default text that doesn't look anything like Agency.

Um, do you have the Agency font installed onto your computer?

If you don't, download it (Agency Free Font - FontStock) and install it.

Hope this helps!

Here we go paul. No matter how I size pics, they all appear the same size on the phone with larger than usual gaps. Clicking the icon, the "yellow border" that flashes is bigger than the icon. Rezizing the widget does not help. I'll post a screen shot as soon as I can download the app.
