Thanks everyone for taking the time out to give some opinions/insight..

Ive been reading around alot on a couple forums. My only smartphone experience is with blackberrys.. I was looking at the Droid X, Droid PRO, and Incredible.. Any blackberry converts have advice on which phone may be easier to get used to? Are they that difft that it doesnt matter? Im not very tech savy, so alot of the stuff i read i dont even really understand.

thanks again!

Not tech Savvy? HTC Sense (The Droid Incredible) will give you slightly more 'out of the box.'

Quick and CRUCIAL question though... you are coming from a Blackberry, is the hardware keyboard a big deal for you? Have you tried typing on a touch screen?

You should really consider this thoroughly given your previous experience. And IF the keyboard is a deciding factor, then the Droid2 is the only one that is going to give it to you.

Or the droid pro which i just started reading about right? Ive messed with alot of difft touch screens from the Droids, to the storms, to the iphones.. all were so/so... but i was told its just something ill get used to, which im ok with.. This is a tougher decision than when i bought my new car! Thanks for the reply!

I've heard something about that. I think (though I'm not sure) that the Droid Pro is something like an international-capable version of the Droid 2.

You might get used to the screen, you might not. I started off with an Android phone that had a keyboard, and by the time I was rid of the phone I never used the physical keyboard anymore (but ONLY because of a special type of on-screen keyboard called Swype, but that's a different story).

IMO, You really should go into the local Verizon store and check out the live models. Use it to text back and forth with a friend, or with your own phone, and see if you really do like the screen keyboard, or if you would like the physical keyboard 'just in case.' Just remember to delete the conversation from the display model phone when you are through.

It has been outed that the Droid Pro and the Droid 2 Global are two very different phones.

The Droid Pro would be the Blackberry converts best choice if they like the BB style keyboard and still want the Android interface and touchscreen capability.

The Droid 2 Global is basically a beefed up Droid 2 with the global capability of any other international smart phone. Same form factor as the Droid 2 with a 1.2 Ghz processor. It still has the full slide down QWERTY keyboard (looks like the OG Droid) but offers a "FULL" touch screen if you want to practice your touch screen typing.

Hope this helps you out. The best thing for you, however, would be to go into the store and actually use these phones...think about what you MUST have on your new phone and what you can learn to live without or change. Also, ask questions at your local retailer or on here!

Well... that didnt take long at all... Playing with my droid x now... I went to the vzw store and they wanted $199 and offered $100 mail in rebate. I drove down the hwy, and got bestbuy to price match the rebate, so i walked out the door paying just a little over $100.

So far this phone is ridiculously confusing.

Congrats! And good choice!

Whenever you get the chance (hopefully soon), go back to Best Buy, ask the Geek Squad to give you a tutorial. If they are any good it will take 5-10 minutes. And make sure that you are the one holding the device, let them coach you through it.

In addition, sit down with the thing this weekend and just play with it for an hour. You'll get the hang of it.

About the only thing you're going to miss (and the withdrawals won't last very long) is BBM (and thats assuming you used it a lot) and the email handling ability of the BB.

Android is definitely a little quirkier, and more unstable. The tradeoff is, spend a couple of weeks playing with the phone and browsing through the market, and you will find apps that allow you to customize it much more than you ever thought possible with a BB.

I thought I would really struggle getting used to a touchscreen keyboard, coming from a Curve. I loaded the swiftkey keyboard and have been in love ever since.

I have no regrets since I switched.

It's not a one-size-fits-all world even for the ex-BB users. Android is a big change no matter what device you select. As always, select based on your specific needs/wants. People here are happy to help if you can provide details.

Quick and CRUCIAL question though... you are coming from a Blackberry, is the hardware keyboard a big deal for you? Have you tried typing on a touch screen?
Even if a keyboard is a must, a lot of ex-BB users aren't going to find what they consider to be a decent physical keyboard in the Android world. Thankfully, Swype worked out for me.

I don't miss either and I was a BES user. Even with BES, email is push-and-reconcile on the BB. With Exchange and ActiveSync on Android I get true sync. BBM had some nice features and it was useful but the platform limitation is a big con in my book. IM apps should really be cross-platform as communication is the point IMO.

What I do actually miss is how the BB centralized management of all audio, vibrate and LED alerts. The Android profiles apps are almost there (and even add some functionality that the BB never had such as WiFi, BT, display, etc) but there are always notifications that you end up having to adjust via individual apps.

Android is definitely a little quirkier, and more unstable.
I think "more unstable" is really going to depend on the BB that the person was using. It's probably more stable for all the Storm converts. As a Curve convert, I do agree with you though as my Curve was rock solid.

I ended up getting the Droid X... its been about 36 hours now since ive had it, and my personal life is suffering imensly! I can't put this thing down! While its a workable and a good phone right out of the box, the more exploring i do online, the better my experience is getting!

The concern as far as the keyboard goes.. In the store i hated the X keyboard and couldnt text at all, but got it anyway. After a day im texting just fine with no problems at all.. The ONLY complaint i have is that the battery life is terrible. Guess its time to get the extended life battery..

But all in all i have not one single regret, except that ive waited this long to make the switch!

I'm not sure if rooting/flashing ROMs and whatnot helps with the DX battery. It did immensely with the Evo (I now get 24hrs, with moderate use, with the stock battery). You should look into it for the DX.

Also keep in mind, your battery life WILL GO UP over time. It's a fact.
No, not because anything magical happens with the battery, but because you will eventually have the phone set exactly how you want it. You will setup your Android to allow for maximum efficiency for whatever you are doing. This means that you will be spending less time on it and thus running the battery less.;) Plus you will overcome that initial "Android Awe" that forces you to use it all the time just to see everything that it can do... whether you need to do it or not :p

Glad to hear that you are getting along fine with the on-screen keyboard! Have you tried using swype or shapewriter or one of those types of keyboard apps yet?
