HOW TO FLASH A RECOVERY IMAGE & LOAD A CUSTOM ROM:

This is a universal method that works for the following phones.
HTC G2 (T-Mobile G2/HTC Vision)
HTC Desire Z
HTC Desire HD
HTC MyTouch 4G (T-Mobile MyTouch 4G)
This gives persistent root access even after reboot. No video yet, but will add it ASAP

UPDATE:
TheUnlockr said:Ok, finally got a G2 in my hands and redid the Temp Root and Perm Root procedures and added videos. Tested them myself so now they definitely work
They have to do the Temp Root procedure first, and then the Perm Root procedure. After that they'll be permanently rooted with S-OFF and ready to flash a recovery image and then ROMs (doing that video as we speak).

Let me know if that helps!
