Capable of HD 720p recording?

Can the nexus record in HD? The Bravo can (from here). To my understanding, to be able to record in 720p it's all about the processor speed. 720p is actually less than 1 megapixel per frame. The reason why many phones can't record in 720p is due to their slow processors. The Bravo has a snapdragon 1Ghz and can record in 720p, the Nexus has a snapdragon so therefore it will be able to record in 720p? I want to know the answer to this (as it will make or break the deal or me). Has anyone found any videos recorded by the nexus?

Image CCD's and video CCD's are very different. For still images, the CCD is designed to take crisp images that take time to transcode. A video CCD takes advantage of the enharent bluriness of motion, allowing it to get away with a much more crude image, making use of the high framerate to make still portions of the image appear more crips.

It really has very little to do with video compression, or even video processing. It all comes down to the architecture of the CCD.

We already know it can record videos, so it (being able to record in 720p) doesn't really come down to the architecture of the CCD.

I'm telling you that you can't use that 5MP still image CCD for HD video. You would need a CCD specific for HD video. I doubt their putting one in it seeing that it would be quite expensive. The current video CCD's HTC uses are cheap little VGA cameras.

Reason why this is a question, is because the Bravo is stated to have 720p video recording capabilities, and if this phone is based off similar hardware I'd expect this to have it as well.

Still no word on if this is possible?
We know everything about the phone except if it records 720p :(

I'm trying to decide if I should wait for the Bravo...
DivX Support... 720p Recording and Sense UI sounds good but if Nexus comes with 720p then I can probably sacrifice the other two :p
I may hold out for the Bravo if there's no 720p on the n1, depending on how the n1 reviews are.

Oh REALLY??? You cant use a 5mp sensor to record 720p video? Tell that to the Moto Droid which records 720p resolution video with its 5mp sensor. Its all about the software and CPU power NOT the sensor. Further more phone cameras do NOT use CCD sensors they use CMOS.

5mp = 5 million pixels
720p = less than 1 million pixel

As you can see the 5mp sensor CLEARLY is over kill for recording 720p. YES HTC uses full 5mp sensors, they are not lower resoltuion sensors that are interloped to 5mp like you probably think in your mind.

Please STOP posting. You are doing much more worse than good by spreading misinformation that you made up on your own.

First of all, the Droid records in 480p. Second, yes, you cant use a 5mp still image sensor to record video images! I think you just failed to read my posts at all.

I said that still image CCDs and video CCDs are entirely different. I would agree that a 5mp video CCD would be over kill for 720p, but I'm fairly certain they dont even exist.

You obviously know nothing about CCDs.

Your knowledge in cameras is amazingly poor. Im going to try to explain this to you slowly again.

1. You STILL cant understand that cameras on phones do NOT use CCD sensors they use CMOS due to thier low power draw and low cost but it does not really matter because you can record 720p with either. Im just pointing out your lack of BASIC knowledge in the subject.

2. YES, you CAN use 5mp sensor (CCD or CMOS) to record 720p video. There are PLENTY of still cameras that do it.

3. It is 100% clear (and funny) that you think devices that capture photos AND video have TWO sensors (one for photo, one for video) when this is simply NOT true. The video is captured with the same sensor that is used primarily to capture photos. There is only ONE sensor (5mp sensor for example).

Again, there is only ONE sensor that captures both photos and video. According to you since still photo (CCD or CMOS) sensors cant record video then ALL devices that capture photos and record video have TWO different sensors.

SIMPLY TOO FUNNY!!!!!! LOLZ!!!!!!!!!!!

the moto droid, with a much slower processer, which i know doesnt directly affect video, is stated to record 720p video. i am a techie, and the sensor is 95% of the resolution of the video/picture. if the device has very high definition/res, and a slow as crap processor, then it will just take a long time to save the file. and to open the file.

720p is easily achievable by many phone camera sensors, the issue is whether the processor, software and memory are capable of handling the information and processing it. Also 720p recording means jack, just as 2mp 5pm 8mp or 12mp Camera's all give different quality pictures and by that I don't mean the higher the megapixels, the better the pictures! Its all still down to the combination of the quality of the camera, lenses and hardware/software to achieve the best results. E.G. I still have a SE C905 8mp, Photos are fantastic, way better than my N1 could ever achieve but when it comes to video the N1 wipes the floor with it.
