NP. Make sure you've followed the following steps precisely and it should work:

1) download droid x bootstrapper from the market.
2) select bootstrap recovery and make sure you see "success!"
3) go to rom manager and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
a) a dialogue box will appear "confirm Phone Model" then select "Droid X". Make sure you see "Successfully downloaded ClockworkMod Recover!"
4) In Rom Mgr select "Backup Current Rom"
5) In the dialogue box change the New backup name to whatever you choose.
6) Hit "OK"

This should do it.

also be sure to not add ANY spaces in between the backup name you recreate for example ....I rename ...Fission _2.1 or Fission-custom ....no spaces

You guys need to forget the renaming for a minute and just let it name itself to eliminate that factor. If you are seeing /!\ on reboot then thats the stock recovery and not clockwork recovery. Can you please open the DroidX Bootstrap app and select Bootstrap Recovery, grant permission selecting ALWAYS ALLOW. After you get the Success! pop up select Ok and then press Reboot Recovery. You should see the Splash screen M for a moment and then the ClockworkMod Recovery screen should load.

Please do this and report back. It is also very important that your SDcard is not full or the backup will error out and reboot leaving you clueless as to why your backup is only 18MB.

I am having the same problem. I have done all the above steps. I even when back to stock and tried again.

It works if I reboot from Bootstrap but not from ROM Manager. Any other ideas? Also it will not let me download any Alt Recoveries.

Only other suggestion I would have would be to uninstall and perform fresh installs of ROM Manager and Bootstrap and try again. Or is that what you meant by back to stock?

Do you get an error when try to download a different recovery?

Yes, none of them work

I just flashed 2.5.0.7 Clockwork using ROM Manager and then selected backup in ROM Manager and it booted to clockwork and it backing up now.

There should be a small 810kb update.zip on the root of your sdcard. I believe that is the recovery that bootstrap installs when you boot to recovery and see the Android unpacking bar. I would delete or rename that file and then reflash recovery in ROM Manager and let it download again. Then try reboot to recovery in ROM Manager and it should take you to 2.5.0.7 recovery.

If that works your backups should work too. Also, I'm sure i have said it before, but make sure your sdcard is not full.
