@GalaxySsupport Is the Fascinate still on track to receive 2.2 by the end of the year as you all stated it would? Thanks in advance

@blink_c Hi Logan. That's the plan--the update should be out for your Fascinate by the end of the year. Thanks for keeping up with us! ^Mary

This both gives me hope and pisses me off at the same time. If we are about to get a maintenance update, I don't see how we will get 2.2 before the end of the year. Why bullsh*t us? Anyways, just thought I'd share.

LOL...I think its crazy how they just keep bs'ing us! My solution is pretty simple, if its not out by the time Verizon releases something really interesting running 2.3, I'm just going to call in for a replacement, throw it in the box and sell it on either eBay, or CEX. For now I'll enjoy it, but once something new drops, especially with talk of dual core processors, LTE, etc etc right around the corner. In that case they can keep their 2.2! Because all kidding aside, if its taking this long to get 2.2, how long would u expect 2.3 to hit us? Thanksgiving of 2011 most likely..lmaoo

its frustrating but i knew what i was getting into with samsung...actually complaining is half the fun

but given my anti-motorola stance, and im getting annoyed with htc for various reasons i think i may stick with sammy

thats as long as wet a dual core lte nexus s or galaxy s 2 in late q1 or early q2 and its on 2.3 :)

I agree! I'm not a big fan of Moto, Blur'ness annoys me, and is just not appealing! HTC is ok, however alot of their phones have a huge amount of Hardware issues out of the gate! But who knows what they'll throw on the table in 2011, they may Surprise us! We need to also remember, those 2 companies are very close with Google/Android, so who knows what will drop. As for me, I'm looking for a Sexy looking, stock 2.3, dual core blazing, LTE smokin Machine from someone come 2011! It may very well be coming from Sammy...I would just hope they get their updates in order if such a device comes from their camp

Interesting thoughts. I think Samsung will remain as a leading android phone maker for next a few years at least. They have more hardware resources, technologies than any others and are serious about being No.1 android phone maker. They just need to improve on the software side.
Next one to watch is LG. Though they miscalculated the pace of android expansion and thus struggled in android phone game so far, they certain have ability to catch up to where HTC is at least. Their phones traditionally had good build, call quality. Their first android Ally is a bit underperforming phone, but Optimus is good improvement on it. Soon they will show off high end dual core large screen phones early next year. Of course Motorola, HTC won't sit back either. I think choosing an android phone next year will be even more tougher than this year.

I agree, it's going to be very Tough! The specs on what LG is bringing to the market look very interesting, I for one like the build quality of their phones, amped up to see what they drop on our lap in 2011. Samsung really has a serious advantage in that they are the Leaders in the screen game. IMO nobody is going to touch them in that department, I can never go back to an LCD, or even an SLCD screen...no way! I'm way too spoiled with Super Amoled to move back to anything that would be a down grade. And since Samsung was the one providing screens to just about everyone in the game before the Galaxy S came to the market, it should now be interesting to see what eveyone else does for screens rolling into the new year.

Let me start off by saying, that I am a Fascinate owner, love the phone, and am anti-iphone!

Now I'd like to comment on the screen comments above. Love the superAmoled screen, best screen I've seen except for the iphone 4 retina display. There is already technology out there that produces better screens than SuperAmoled, so how long do people think it will take for another company to develop something comparable to the retina display? I'm sure Apple wouldn't license their technology to be used in any other phone, but the point is, there is better technology out there than Superamoled already, so what happens when these new LTE phones come out, who's to say?

If higher resolution is what you are refering to...then yes those screens are coming in the next few months. Retina display=resolution high enough to mask individual pixels.

It's not so well known fact, but the retina display in iPhone4 is actually made by LG display. It's kind of SLCD with extreme resolution. Apple only designed and speced it for LG to manufacture and supply it to them. They don't make any displays by themselves.

I will take your anti-Moto bid and raise it with 2.3 (when we receive it :D), nitsuj17! haha. The locked bootloader isn't all that bad now, as you already knew.. aside from custom kernels, most of what has been wanted has been achieved.

I'm hoping LG steps it up in the Android world. I held on to my LG Chocolate for many years simply because the thing worked like a champ.. even with having been dropped hundreds of times.

Yes, and the better display will probably be made by Samsung. They have one up on everyone at this point, as they don't have to outsource, they produce pretty much their whole device with their own parts in-house. However, LG is going to bring some serious heat I believe in 2011...I hope so, their Hardware is rock solid, and if their software is right, it'll probably be Samsung and LG ruling the Android game in the coming year.

my anti-moto bid has less to do with what can be done to the phone by the hacking community, but with the philosophy at douche central (moto hq)

they are extremely anti-hacking...most companies are but motorola has invested millions of dollars in an attempt to completely lock down their phones.

and yes while overclocking on a stock kernel (which for what its worth is only like 1/3 of the benefit of a custom kernel and not the most important parts) and blurless roms have been achieved....dont think motorola will stop there.

a year from now it wouldnt shock me if motorola has a completely unrootable phone out there. and yes chime in now with the "they cant stop the dev community!" a growing numbers of devs most likely wont waste their time or it wont be done....look how long it took to crack the g2/desire z etc on htc and they havent made lockdown the priority motorola has.

im not criticizing anyone who owns a dx/d2 etc im just saying i personally refuse to support the company that will (try to be) the downfall of the android hacking community....

Wasn't just referring to higher resolution. Other phones have higher resolution than the Fascinate, yet the fascinate has a better picture because of the S-Amoled. I compared multiple pics on my friends Iphone4 vs my SF, and the pics are just as vibrant, yet the colors in the pics on the iphone more accurately represent what you see when you physically look at the object(s) that the picture was of.

Good to know that LG developed the retina display.

And looking forward to better screens from samsung too, but for now, I'm totally satisfied with the SF.

I won't refute that Moto won't stop with what they have and will try to lock down their phones even more, nitsuj17 :p Right now, I'm not anti-Moto since I can still do everything I need with my phone once rooted, but I'm sure by the next time I upgrade to a new phone, I'll be joining your side of the fence :]

Say it aint so...Luke, u do not know the power of the dark side..hehehe!

I really think the biggest reason why Apple is so dominant is NOT due to their "industrial design" or clever marketing (though they are factors) but because, when they announce a release date, they DELIVER on that date. And don't bring up a single rare instance where there was a delay; Apple is really good at making an announcement and keeping the public aware of the countdown.

No other company comes close. And I do have a Fascinate, I'm just really annoyed with Verizon AND Samsung.

Why can't they spend a lot more money hiring engineers to test out these phones and updates? Doesn't make sense.

This might be a rare occurrence to you, but the white iphone? How many times has that thing been delayed?'

But yes for the most part they have been on time I guess.
