Root [Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab Music player?

I would not think it is so much a matter of "porting" (which implies a certain under the hood code tweaks needing to be made) when it fact, since it is running the Android OS the Droids can run, you just need to get access to the.apk file from someone with one and install it.

Well I am sure someone on this forum has to have one! lol Hopefully we will see this soon?

how would I do a system dump of a galaxy tab. I cant root the one I have but if its a simple matter of plugging it in and running a command I can try and get it. ill test it on my droid before hand too

well, you just have to find the apk. maybe Root Explorer or Astro and would it not be in system/app/

would not need to be rooted to do this.

Im hoping you will be able to do this! If this works I would love you forever ;) lol

Enable system debugging and then download the Android SDK and place it in C:\android-sdk-windows.

Hit Windows+R to bring up Run, type in cmd.exe, hit enter.

Type in the following lines, hitting enter between each one:
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
adb shell
ls /system/app (Now look around for the app that looks like it, I'm going to assume it's called Music.apk)
adb pull /system/app/Music.apk C:\Music.apk
*replace the italicized text with whatever the apk is actually called

REMEMBER: All of these commands that involve the Android filesystem are case-sensitive!

Now it should place the apk at C:\Music.apk

I think this'll work, I'm okay with ADB but not great. adb pull should work without su.

Someone will have to deodex the system dump first. I believe this is how it works. That incorporates the .odex into the .apk. I think that gets rid of the dependency issue.]

Nothing you can really do unless you're a real developer. Just wait it out for someone to do it. Galaxy Tab development should pick up soon, it is the first real Android tablet after all. That's why the D1 was so big, it was the first Android 2.0 phone and the first one on Verizon. The first is always popular. :)

Ya that seems like the only option is to wait it out, but I agree with you it shouldnt be to long until we start seeing developers messing with the tablets.

expensive, and in a few months when a lot of the rumored tablets hit the market in early 2011... out-dated and under powered with slower chips, older 2.1 OS, not tablet optimized OS, low MP cameras, etc.

IMHO, there are to many rumored and known tables coming to even wan to consider the Galaxy.

Not to completely nitpick, but the Tab is running Froyo (and hopefully should be upgradable to Gingerbread).

very likely.. but the fact is it is this Tablet that came out prior to having an OS optimized for it. heck, it does not even have a Market. But, rumors are a web based Market is coming and newer OS will support tablet resolutions and sizes whereas 2.1 is a bit of a hack. so yeah it will surely be upgradeable, but still under powered with what's coming if people are patient a few months.

Honestly, without Google's blessing (which they won't get until Gingerbread and supposedly, full tablet functionality is coming in Honeycomb), you can't have an optimal Android experience. No Market = no fun. Which is a shame because there are some amazing looking sub-$100 Android tablets on DealExtreme. I suppose you could always sideload .apk's or try to maybe root it and install the Market (I don't know how that works).

Not to mention that the Tab is horrendously overpriced.
