2.2 Froyo for the Captivate Discussion

EXCELLENT! I'm so glad I happened to check back in this forum. This is great news for Captivate users. Froyo will fix almost all the worst issues, save for the file system samsung uses I guess. Will there be a OCLF for Froyo?
Hopefully we won't need OCLF for Froyo - unless you're just talking about the root portion. There are other easy root solutions out there now.

Just upgraded to 2.2 yesterday. Im loving it. Minus the fact that i got settled in too quickly and had apps and everything back but then reckless racing wouldnt download i had to reset back to factory and then it was fine... also had to do a battery pull cause the battery didnt charge at all. other then those small issues which are fixable it is awesome.. the GPS is finally working... (no not 100%) but it is tolerable... thank god for 2.2

How are you guys getting Froyo on Captivate?

I've been running Cognition 2.2B3 for a while now. Feels much more polished and somewhat faster, but I still get lag from time to time. GPS does work, though sometimes it takes a while to lock.

I'd like to upgrade to a later version, but Clockworkmod doesn't work on 2.2 and I never think about it when I'm at home and can use Odin. Such is life.

I have a feeling froyo is soon, I just got my cappy and I love it! why in hell are you guys complaing about 2.1 though it works perfecty! stop installing so many things that run in the background !

Well, you just got it. So maybe you should stop complaining about us complaining.

You haven't experienced having to update 20,30,40 apps one at a time yet. Yeah, those updates come about every one to two weeks.

You haven't had enough time to get the whole web experience without flash yet. Flash will greatly increase your web experience.

You're actually not using your phone's full hardware yet. Your phone has more memory than 2.1 is physically capable of using. Once we update, you should be using your phone to the full potential. This should mean "faster, ooh my!"

You may not have used your gps much yet. Leaked roms appear to make gps better, not entirely fix, but make better.

You may not yet run into an app you can't use because its 2.2 only. I've run into this a lot on appbrain finding cool apps or even games that wont install because I'm on that old 2.1 system.

We're bitching because almost everyone else has it. But we don't. No one knows why. AT&T blames Samsung. Samsung blames AT&T.

Your average user won't notice too many changes. The flash thing will be big for them, but otherwise not so much. But us, those of us who join a support forum with the goal of discussing the phone and all of it's potentials; we're starting to get a bit frustrated.

someones cranky.
I know 2.2 will be awesome. but just sitting here worring about it won't do anything.
I'm sure itll come within a few days

lol I'm not cranky. Do you actually think you're better than us for sitting here complaining about us "sitting here worrying about it"?

Yes, "within a few days". I'm sure we can all now breath a collective sigh of relief that you've assured us that the completely unannounced update will be here. By the way, do you not realize how funny that is considering that most of us here have figured that it was due up "within a few days" for a couple of months now?

Don't know why everyone thinks the Captivate is like the last phone on earth to get Froyo. I'd rather get a complete update than than a rushed update to please the impatient people (Who well then complain about a rushed update being so buggy). There a a good number of Froyo roms out there you can try if you are really getting sick. I've been using them even since they were first leaked. At this point, I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference from the real update and the amazing roms the developers have been putting out. And if anything, the community roms are typically better.

Soooo tired of people crying about not having Froyo. "Leaked" versions have been available to everyone on this forum for awhile now. If there was no opportunity to have 2.2, that MIGHT warrant the temper tantrums everyone throws.

Part of me even thinks that the official 2.2 release from AT&T will be JJ4 (which Cognition and many others are built on). Remember when the 2.1 update was released? We saw JH6 leaked first, and there was practically no difference in the AT&T release with the exception of some features being removed and AT&T apps installed.

Maybe all you guys just REALLY LOVE those AT&T bloat apps.
