Root Is It Safe To Root?

I'd recommend you read a little about it first. You can add roms and customize a few more things

I used super one click to root and found it easiest, personally...

Root Any Android Device And Samsung Captivate With Super One-Click App

But there is also a thread in the "All Things Root" section that's full of great info too!

http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...ing-custom-rom-theme-how-unbrick-droid-x.html

I would say it's safe because it's very simple to unbrick it...which is the worst thing you really could do to your phone. Read up, see if it's for you, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

Oh and welcome to the board :)

It's safe but you've got to realize you are going to mess up at some point and have to "unbrick" your phone. With the right software, which is readily available in the rooted section, it is very simple to do. Sometimes it will be as simple as booting into recovery and restoring a backup. Other times you may need to use your computer and "flash" your phone with the stock software and then start over again which is still pretty easy....oh...and a little patience will help a lot.

This is coming from the biggest chicken in the bunch. But rooted and haven't done anything else expect d/l some apps, particularly wireless tether. My phone didn't explode, everything works as before and I'm happy. Waited for months to do it and only have kicked myself in the ----- well, you know, since.

Wait till you start flashing ROMs and themes, you'll wonder why you were using stock for so long!

Ok, I used the app on the market and now I am rooted :)

I did a complete restore because this is a new phone and I upgraded from a D1 and it took those settings and it seemed like a few things were off. I showed my ignorance in thinking this would unroot it and I would have to do it again.

So, now what I really want to do is uninstall the crapware like CityID, Blockbuster etc. I thought I could just do that after I was rooted. Do I need something else?

Actually, I might have started. I downloaded the blackmodz returns mod, thinking that all that did was to make the black notification bar. When I start to install it via ROM manager, it asks me if I want to back up my current ROM. Is blackmodz a full fom change? Safe??????????

I would advise either freezing it with the paid version of Titanium Backup Pro or renaming it with Root Explorer - not uninstalling.

Also, if you use a custom ROM that is "blurless" like the Rubix focused I use, all those apps are removed, saving you the effort.

+1 to this. I go the Titanium route and it is easy as pie, not to mention batch app backups.

Root isn't dangerous in and of itself.... the things you can do with su access are. :)

So I keep hearing about rooting my Droid X. I am not sure what it will do? Whether it is safe or not. I know that not being able to take screenshots drives me crazy.
Of course there are other things too that drive me nuts about my phone. The fact that there are apps that I never use that are part of the phone.
It's a Verizon Motorola Droid X that I use on Straight Talk.
So my question is.
If I root my phone; is it still safe to check my online bank account on my phone?
Will I be able to screenshot?
How easy is it?
How easy is it to screw up my phone?
What are the benefits?
How do I root my Droid X?
What are other things I should do or get after I root to keep it safe and working good?
Sorry for sounding like an idiot, but I really want to make sure I don't screw it up. Some searches say "BAD" some say "GOOD" so it's a bit confusing to know which.
I appreciate any help and opinions on this.

Not sure if this info helps but;
it's a 2.3.4

It will just as safe.
Will I be able to screenshot?
yes many screenshot apps in play store I like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.geeksoft.screenshot
How easy is it?
How easy is it to screw up my phone?
easy to screw up, easy to undo. just need to reflash firmware, see DX (MB810) ezSBF 2.3.4/4.5.621

What are the benefits?
too numerous to list, remove bloatware, over/under clock, tether 3g to pc or tablet, install a custom rom...
How do I root my Droid X?
very easy with Framaroot, see video Super Easy Droid X, Droid 2 Rooting app - YouTube
What are other things I should do or get after I root to keep it safe and working good?

You Rock "THEMIB"
So I am sure by now you have guessed that I am pretty new to this.
So I appreciate the links.
Have to admit, I am a bit nervous about jumping into the "rooting" thing.
I am afraid that it will leave my phone open to hacks or access to my private information.

So I guess step by step, what do you recommend for rooting.
My Droid X is:
System Version 45.621.10.MB810.Verizon.en.US
Android Verson 2.3.4

I am wanting to know which ROM is recommended, Theme, Other apps that would help.
I haven't had a chance to go through the links yet that you recommended.
So I am sure that once I do, you probably answered some or most of what I want to know.

Are there security issues I should be worried about? Are there steps I should take in regards to say; checking my bank info on my phone, emails?
Websites I should stay away from or links?

Again! Much Appreciated!
I am a quick learner, and I am sure that once I get started; I will become a fanatic! ;P
