At my college we have this annoying web based login and my android phone doesn't like it. It connects easily but when I go to either browser or opera mobile it doesn't load the login page the browser still thinks it has no connection. Is there anyway to approach this in a better way or bypass the login or at least save it to automatically do it each time.
I need a wifi connection! every building has it. annoying this is once you move to a different building the settings are changed(probably because of the routers) and I have to redo it. of course it never works

well how come the androids browsers cant redirect to the login page

Two days a week my company has me working at a local major university. That university has a web based login portal for their WiFi network. My Droid X seems to handle this fine. I manually direct my web browser to go to it's home page (ie., Google) and the browser brings up the web portal allowing me to sign in.

Certificate problems usually show up at handshake part of the connection. Once you have connected i suggest use the default browser to get the redirected to the correct page. I had problems with my phone with the dolphin hd browser. Just use the default android browser to connect and after that you can use opera. Don't forget that you have to actually try to load a page in the default browser in order for redirect to work.
