its obviously easier/cheaper to do it this way..
I'm sure they will have to upgrade the firmware to make this happen, or these things will just sit on the shelf

It is cheaper...I agree.

But I can get some really cheap Bluetooth devices that support A2DP for less than $20 from China. The cost to add A2DP can't be prohibitive for a company like Bose...who strive for the best.

This is clearly not striving to be the best...shameful really for the Bose name.

so..I don't actually know alot about bluetooth....

but isn't this a2dp what I am doing when connecting to and playing music through my JVC head unit via bluetooth and via my motorola bluetooth stereo headphones?

Yes. A2DP is required for non-call-related audio over Bluetooth.

If the device does not support A2DP, then you can't stream audio through that device.

I strongly recommend A2DP in all bluetooth devices (even mono-headsets). I am in the market for a headset with A2DP and will have one by the end of the year most likely.

My buddy got me a Bose bt headset (I never used a bt headset, and never planned on it) and I just downloaded the "Super BT Mono" app...so far working fine streaming music via Power Amp, stock media player, and Dish/Sling app, on Logo Defy, despite dev stating it only works for certain phones/roms.

thats quite a generous "buddy" you have there!

Roger that.

FWIW, from someone who generally dislikes Bose products (preferring my all tube conrad-johnson gear driving Celestions), I was surprised w/the audio quality for calls. Listening to music via the streaming app however does not sound as good. It seems like the audio is very compressed.

I bought the Motorola Roadster.... but then bought a car stereo head unit that has a Bluetooth built-in and has USB port on the face (for MP3 files to play from a memory stick)... and it eliminated the need for the Motorola. I just dont know how good the quality of the mic/speaker will be for phone calls.
