Nov. Maintenance OTA Update Discussion Thread

Since the upgrade, I've received several forced closes on com.android.phone. I don't use many apps from the store. I haven't changed a thing on the phone. Whatever is doing it, it is the OTA or some interaction with the few things I use.

Also the Backup Assistant hung once. I didn't try to use a task killer but just rebooted the phone to clear it. First time that BA gave me problems too.

Mine is doing the same thing since the update. And at times when I try to go back to the home screen I get a black screen and nothing will happen for a few minutes. Also noticed at times I can't do anything...meaning when I push on one of the icons on the screen or one of the bottom 4 soft keys nothing will happen...not even the short vibration indicating I pressed on one of them. And all of this started after the last OTA update.

Am I the only person that has had ZERO problems since the update? I'm beginning to think so........
Mines fine.. except i can't for the life of me get my yahoo mail to work with htc mail app now.... o well
It's been too long my friend... good to see you and I like your change!

As I reported... I was having all kinds of trouble with my 3g connections since the OTA. I belive I found the culprit. WeatherBug Elite has been struggling to load it's information ever since the 2.2 OTA and after watching it a bit.. it's not loading at all now. I kicked it to the curb and for two days now I've had zero problems with my 3g. Tomorrow I try reinstalling the app and see if my troubles return. I seriously think the app was causing my problems and I'm guessing a fresh install will likely not be a problem. I keep forgetting this Incredible is a tiny PC and it doesn't take much for it to stumble and fart on it's self.
Had same kinda problems with mlb-at-bat after the 2.2
Developer told me to uninstall and reinstall. Something about having the 2.1 version trying to work on 2.2, whatever the problem after that it worked fine.

Battery is killing me! When updated to FROYO I stood by this thing defending the battery life to the death, because it really wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. But after this new update there is no question that my Battery life is draining quickly. In 2 hours after unplugging it dropped 20%, in 5 hours 40%. I'm sitting at 60% 5 hours after I unplugged it whilst using my phone for nothing more than a couple texts. I used to get through my entire 9 hour work day playing games (yes at work), browsing the web, and using it moderately and still get home with more than 60%.

Apps also shut down unexpectedly sometimes.

update: I think I figured out why my battery is draining so quickly. Since the update, my phone has had problem finding a good signal. Albeit the signal in my work was never that great, but the 1 bar was enough to keep it from constantly searching for the network. After the update, it doesn't pick up on that one bar as well so it spends the whole day searching, draining my battery. Might be something similar to those that are having 3g connectivity issues after the update.

Don't really know what to do about that, except keep my phone plugged in at work. Works fine every else.

Apps still force close randomly. More often it the browser.

Wouldn't dialing *228 help here?
Anyone else?

What does *228 do on Verizon? - TreoCentral.com

Wow. Surprised to read about these problems. I must be lucky. No FCs or other negatives, battery life is substantially improved, and car charging is now where it was before - charge increases even when I'm running GPS, streaming BT music to my car, and have the screen at 100%.

Battery life is substantially better. Depends on the cell I use (I have two from Bidallies). One of them is letting me go 3.5 - 4 days depending on use. The other, 3+. Before the November Maintenance OTA, I was getting 2-3 days.

I'm happy.

Yea, I'm expereincing the 5mg attachment limit when I try to attach a video to a gmail email. I thought this OTA was supposed to fix this issue.

I just went through a device replacement after a factory reset and found out today that Verizon made a error in the November update notes!!
Verizon says the internal memo is indicating the restriction was set to 5Mb to limit data traffic on their network!
What this means for all of us is that you can NO LONGER attach or FORWARD any Email over 5Mb , which is PATHETIC.

Is this just limited to Android phones? Are there restrictions on BB or WinMo?

No. I'm not having any issues. The battery does charge faster but other than that, I really can't see much difference. I haven't tried uploading an attachment larger than 5 MB, but I sure hope that isn't the limit as I want to be able to send HD videos through Gmail. Wherever I go, I seem to have the best phone so I'm a happy geek.;)

Before the update, I could POP mail off my email account with my laptop and it would automatically delete it from my Incredible.

Now, if I POP mail off my server using my laptop, or delete messages using the webmail interface, the mall STAYS on my phone - until I delete with the phone.

Anybody know how I can go back to the pre-OTA way?

Thanks...

This is the way it was under 2.1. Many complaints to HTC about deleting the mail on the Incredible after 2.2 - many posted in this forum. It looks like they went back to the way it was before 2.2.

I for one switched to K-1 Mail because of this and K-1 has a setting to delete if deleted from server or leave it on the phone if deleted from the server. HTC Mail never had, and still does not have that option. It looks like I will delete K-1 Mail and just use the HTC Mail again.

I guess I will list my issues after the udate.

for one, i have been getting "android.process.acore" force close notifications.
I also see weather animations no matter where on the phone I am. The weather animations follow me everywhere and they can't be turned off.
Noticeably more lag in the system as well. apps can take a minute to open some times and when opening messaging the phone sometimes freezes and restarts.

I had no issues till this last update

I have this issue after installing WidgetLocker yesterday. It went away after I disabled it... I suspect WidgetLocker isnt fully compatible with the nov OTA update.

No, 5Mb is the new cap on the Incredible's outbound data.

This includes blocking of any email forwarding over 5Mb.

Maybe, just maybe if enough of us scream to VZW they will be forced to
remove this RIDICULOUS OUTBOUND DATA CAP !!??

Verizon has snuck a 5Mb cap on all outbound EMAIL data including forwarded emails and any attachments , period.

I went through a factory reset and a replacement device over this issue this week.
Yesterday I found out from Verizon that their internal notes show that the November OTA UPDATE installs a 5Mb LIMIT to ALL outbound data!
This has to be one of the sneakiest tricks VZW has pulled in a while to limit our data on the network that WE pay for!!
Please, Please call VZW and DEMAND this cap be removed from your Incredible !!
