Root Wifi tether using bluetooth... some help for evo

I have an evo4g and rooted it. I run 2.2 and a month old version of fresh or so.

Anyway, just got a usb dongle at newegg for $7. I plugged it in and it connected my phone flawlessly for audio. Basically for audio all I do is toggle bluetooth on on the phone, then.. hit play and music is coming thru my computer speakers. Amazing.

That said - I can't seem to connect for bluetooth wifi. Is there a different driver for the phone that I need to d/l somewhere?

Going to the windows 7 (I run win 7 ultimate) it says about my phone under the services tab:

BRCM Advanced Audio
Handsfree Telephony Gateway
Object Push (Obex)

This leads me to believe I need a different driver perhaps? When I go to "Join a Personal Area Network" there are no devices listed. I try to add device but it doesn't find my phone.

I know this is kinda complicated so if you dont understand my problem please ask for a clarification.

Thanks so much fellow evo users!

Why not just wifi tether the beehatch???

I dont have a wifi card on my desktop, just the bluetooth dongle.

Was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone.. less things sticking out of my usb slots.

Also, as I didn't note - the wifi tether works fine from my laptop using wifi instead of bluetooth.. but no dice yet on bluetooth.

Anyone have thoughts?

i'm having this same problem. i am using wireless tether and activate the bluetooth option but i cannot get it set up on my computer with window 7. i can't even get that music playback working like you described though, its really frustrating. in bluetooth setting's i see stereo audio player and telephony audio gateway but they're both "disconnected" and when i press connect nothing happens. how did you get that working?

I tried the Bluetooth connection for WiFi yesterday. No go also. I used the Phone-as-modem via BT on my Mogul for over two years without a problem. Oh well. I also noticed that I can not use my BT earpiece and BT Audio gateway to laptop speakers at the same time. Could it be there is no BT multi-tasking with the Evo?

i'm not a fellow evo user, but i think i solved the same problem you're trying to solve on my nexus one using the app Wireless Tether for Root Users. i'm running cyanogenmod 7.0.3 and it shows up in the Market as long as i don't have a SIM inserted. as soon as i insert my ATTW SIM, it disappears.

the home page for the app is android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting

even though the project name suggests wifi-only support, the version i just installed, 2.0.7, supports tethering other devices to it with bluetooth via it's PAN support.

good luck!
